No real arpeggiator on board? No worries!!

I had Ableton send midi to the tribe with an arp device set up on the ableton track. Then just hit record on the tribe and then play on ableton. It programed the arpeggiated pattern in perfectly.

Writing your parts in a software sequencer is definately the way to go here. Step programing/realtime recording are plagued with issues on this machine, as evidenced by the abundance of gripes on this forum.

Setting the Trigger Mode to Seq. Play can give you something sort of close too, though you're stuck with the root note.

And you have to take the time/effort to program in the sequence...
thoracic spine crushing work if you lean from an old chair over a computer desk, I really need a 45 degree stand.

On the point of the root note though, you could move the pitch dial. Combining that with the technique I mentioned is heaps of fun.

When you're in the Part Copy menu screen, you can quickly press Enter than a new Trigger pad, repeat, to quickly copy one part to more than one destination.

BPM and Swing Control with your iPhone

Alright here is a new trick...at least something you can mess with your iOS device.

With your iPhone in case you have not yet, download Korgs SyncKontrol for Monotribe. This app is sort of old news but if you have never purchased a Volca or Monotribe then you may find this app interesting.

Set your E2's Global clock settings to Sync External.

Turn on your new SyncKontrol app.

With a dual ended 1/8 jack plug one end into your iPhone and the other into the Sync In of your E2.

Now with your iPhone you have a separate controller for both BPM and Swing. I don't know if the swing is accurate but it does provide interesting results.

I would prefer to set tempo and swing within the Tribe and use my iPhone better for additional synth or sampling voices

Probably obvious to everyone but new users:

If you plug a velocity sensitive MIDI keyboard into your electribe and record poly notes, you will notice your volume is jumping around. Step editing your recorded random velocity data can be a little faster by doing this:

Enter step edit and go to the first step's velocity page. Hold Shift while turning the edit knob up. It jumps to 127 very fast. Touch the next step on the pad - the electribe stays on the velocity page, and repeat on down the line.

Well some may feel this is helpful, in case they only want to work with the E2 and controlling the BPM and Swing separately from menu or "pad" diving is just not as efficient.

Exporting your Patterns to the card overwrites any previously exported Patterns of the same name and in the same location. If you want to do incremental back ups to the card, you need to rename the Pattern, or save it to a new location, and then re-export to the card.

Anyone care to share some tips to prevent running out of poly/paraphony?

Another fun tip. If you connect an iPad or iPhone to the USB on the electribe via a Camera Connection Kit, the electribe shows up as a MIDI input and output on the iPad. So you could for instance use the electribe to sequence different tracks in Gadget, including sync and transport control.

Likewise if you have any MIDI apps like Genome or Thumbjam, you can use those to play and record parts on the electribe. Seems to be really stable, and I had no issues with sync getting off.

Pretty powerful being able to control the iPad from the electribe, and then run the audio from the iPad back into the electribe too.

Technically is it possible. In real life it's painful because of Gadget's bad sync behaviour. Unfortunately there is no other way to use Gadget with the Tribe. Because of Gadget's poor MIDI implementation only the gadget which have the focus (that little yellow square) is receiving MIDI. Anyway, Electribe and iPad (or iPhone) is a extremely powerful duo. And battery-operated too ;-)

Wait hold on a sec...are you saying that you are able to use iPad or iPhone as a midi controller for the E2 through the E2's USB? That would mean that ANY "Powered" controller can be used to control the E2 through it's USB port. That's awesome! So even an app on Android that is a controller can be used!

Too bad that E2 port can't provide power...Imagine if Korg did that, one could use the Nano2 Controllers or pad control to add even more control over their Tribe. Missed opportunity here...
