Newbie Question: X50 and MIDI Controller

Post by cherenzig »

Hi all,

A quick question. I have a KORG X50 and I'm thinking of investing in a lightweight 88-key MIDI controller (specifically, M-AUDIO Keystation) as the second keyboard for my live rig.

So what I'd like to know (if these questions have been answered elsewhere, please point me to the relevant posts):

1) Is it possible for me to play one X50 sound (say organ) on the X50's keyboard itself, while playing a different X50 sound (say piano) on the Controller keyboard?

2) If yes, is this possible with only PROGRAM patches, or with COMBI patches as well?

3) Is it possible for me to change patches independently on the two keyboards in this setup (e.g. use the selection wheel on the X50 to switch from organ to brass that I'm playing on the X50's keyboard; meanwhile, use selection buttons on the Controller keyboard to switch from X50 grand piano to X50 electric piano that I'm playing on the Controller keyboard?)

4) If some or all of these things are possible, where would I look up the setup instructions? Is there an online resource showing setup diagrams for this (I imagine) relatively simple live rig?

Thanks very much!
