I agree that this can be useful information. But the spirit with which the information is shared is most often "Kronos Dumb / New Keyboard Infinitely Better." That gets as old as the Mac/Pc debate. Use what you like and get on with your life...Scatter wrote:I'm interested in hearing the reasons why someone might choose to stop using one particular mass-produced consumer product in favour of another. Then again I take no pride in purchasing said products either. Glad to hear you're satisfied with the arranger.

it has a nice string/pad patch and the accompaniment works tightly. but I haven't heard anything to kick the Kronos to the curbvideorov wrote:I like this so much more, and it sounds so much better. I was waiting for

As you clearly want an arranger (which Kronos is not) you could have saved money and got yourself a much better more professional arranger like the Korg PA3X-76.videorov wrote:I like this so much more, and it sounds so much better.
To actually say that a Tyros sounds so much better than a Kronos merely indicates that you have the wrong keyboard.
Tyros is old OS technology and lacking/missing many arranger features particularly if you need it for professional use like performing or recording (I've owned both!!).
I am happy to give you some REAL reasons why I would no longer touch Yamaha arrangers - not personal dislikes but physical limitations.
If you haven't bought it yet - go get a "pro" keyboard like the PA3X but then I suppose it is all about what you want to do with it.
Research it thoroughly my friend, it is grossly overpriced and over rated - sounds are over-DSP'd and misleading.
Don't be fooled by the brilliance of Yamaha's Peter Baartman demos - that guy could make any keyboard sound awesome.
At least keep your Kronos for a while - think you'll regret selling it….
Just my 2c
Really wish you "luck"
Pete

I think it all depends on your needs. An Arramger Keyboard would be close to useless to me but I could certainly see the benefits of one. I play in a duo but we don't use backing tracks. In fact, it's actually one of our selling points. The "what you see and hear, is what you get" thing.
I ve seen other duos where they sound like a whole band and to me that's equally good as to what we do. It's just a matter of perspective.
Sound wise, I myself am totally in love with the Kronos pianos. In fact I made a combi out of 2 different ones that to me is the perfect piano sound. I imagine though that there are other people who would hate it. That's cool. I prefer Bosendorfer over Yamaha pianos but I'm sure other people go the other way.
It all just gets down to the basic thing that what one person thinks is best may not be what somebody else this is best. The simple truth is, we're all wrong. It's all great! Or maybe it all sucks!

PA3X-76 has had problems with their keypad
Some guys have complained about it and some software glitches.
As a tyros 5 owner i can state that these both instruments should never be replacements of one another unless you bought the totally wrong instrument..
I think both instruments however compliment eachother very well...
Kronos : good keybed, top piano sounds, best synth collection, awesome key and organ instruments, karma, sampler, professional recording. Unlimmited sound design possibillities, the sound of a raw beast that needs to be tamed
Tyros 5 : well ballanced sound design, best wood brass and win instrument sounds. Works straight out of the box , ensemble voices, SA2 voices are so much fun and entertaining. A very wellrounded sound out of the box.

Most Instruments (synthesizers, workstations, arrangers) sound great, and if they don't, it's you sound system, your ears, or your attitude.
I'd love a new Tyros, but not at the expense of my Kronos.
Since most keyboards sound great, it's a manner of the instrument's features and how well they match your application. This tends to influence your attitude towards the equipment.
I love my Roland FA06 and Korg Krome for live performance, simply because they sound great and are the light weight. It's not easy to lug the Kronos and the JP80 up 42 steps after jamming them into my little car. But when I am at home jamming/recording I don't even touch the FA06/Krome.

OH! I had forgotten about this ridiculous topic.
This guy only wanted to rub us up the wrong way.
Why say "upgraded to Tyros 5"? - answer:- to irritate Kronos owners.
Glad he's gone to Tyrosland - at least he'll now have some great "Christmas sing-alongs"

(P.S. Don't get me wrong, Tyros 5 is a nice unprofessional keyboard - just NOT a workstation or designed for performing/recording live - I had one!!)

Nothing wrong with being in Tyros land..
For me Tyrosland feels like fairy tale land.. I really enjoy the sweetness..
But you cant compare a tyros with a fullblown workstation... If you do so, you obviously disquallify yourself for being taken serious..
