SAMPLES/KROMATOOL
I'm looking to buy a Krome to replace my M50 and wondered more about the "unofficial" sampling capabilities, is it quite simple to set up?

Waiting for sample info updating
Hi, this is my first post... Expecting some answer to eltmatt, I would like someone could update the information about the krome sample posibilities..
For example... (A question, in fact)...
Why i need the meta and sample .img files for load and hear the M1 .pcg pack samples, but just one (the .pcg) for other(best of triton, etc)??..

I don't know the status of Kromatool, it was developed unofficially by someone who I think doesn't hang around here anymore.
I can only tell you that you need the two sample files for the M1 pack because there are extra samples in there that the Krome doesn't have, while the best of Triton pack uses the Krome's internal multisamples.
In all honestly, the Krome probably has a large amount of the multisamples from the Triton AND M1. But the Best of Triton pack was developed by Korg and they don't officially support the sampling feature and either used only Triton programs that the Krome already has samples for, or they just substituted some. The M1 is far older, perhaps the Krome doesn't have the full set from back then.

I am here.
A basic version of kromatool is out, but the more I use my Krome the less I think the "sample feature" interesting...I Agree....just program your Korg Krome...you will feel better and it will sound better

Check http://www.kromeheaven.com/ (without making any advertisment for my website...I don't want to flood korg forum !!!)
Kromatic software is just released...You will be able to edit your sample pack.
Kromatool (sample generation pack from KSC/KMP/KSF file) is not completly finished...(If any want, I can help in sample generation...it also makes me test the tool) but once again, you don't need it to have pretty good sound on your krome.

Thanks for your reply!... Then... If I had TWO .pcg files containing additional samples to krome's internal multisamples, would it be impossible to load simultaneously?you need the two sample files for the M1 pack because there are extra samples in there that the Krome doesn't have, while the best of Triton pack uses the Krome's internal multisamples.
That is great!... But.. What is different about the kromatic that kromatool?Kromatic software is just released...You will be able to edit your sample pack.
..a problem I had... I wanted to mix .raw files from two .pcg files (one of these the M1) to create a single .pcg file (I used kromatool) ... All was ok... But the output names were KROMASAMPLE 1, KROMASAMPLE2, .... (Or so) , then my krome didn't work right with respectives M1 combis and programs...
Does solving this problem?... Maybe kromatic?

PCG files do not contain samples, that's what the sample.img and meta.img are for. PCG files contain programs, combinations and global settings. Those in turn may need a certain sample set to work correctly. But yeah, as far as I can see you can only load one sample set at a time. If you had some tool to merge two sets and there's enough RAM it might work but you'd need to reprogram all programs and point them to the correct samples.

Oh yes... You're right ... .img files contains samples. Then I must to change the 2nd part of my last post..:
I wanted to merge .raw files from two .img pair of files (one of these pairs belongs to M1) to create a unique pair of .img files (I used kromatool) ... All was ok... But the output names were KROMASAMPLE 1, KROMASAMPLE2, .... (Or so) , then my krome didn't work right with respectives M1 combis and programs. I hope to be clear...
Can I solve this problem?... Maybe kromatic?.. thanks a lot.

I think you would have to remap all samples in the programs and save a new PCG (from within the Krome). Each sample has an index number, if you merge two banks the indexes will change. Say Program A is using sample 5 from set A. Now you have two samplesets A and B that you merge. You start with B, which has thirty samples, and add A to it. Now you load the samples. Program A will be looking for sample 5 still, but the new location is actually 35. You will have to modify the program on the OSC/Basic page and point it to the new sample.
Disclaimer: I don't actually have a Krome nor have I used Kromatool. I'm just going by "Korg logic" since I own a Kronos, Triton Extreme and Karma.
