One Week In

Post by RPgrantham »

So ES2 arrived on Thursday and had a few days to play with it. I think I follow the curve of most people based on forums. There was instant gratification based on the pretty great sounds from some of the preset patterns (I mean sonically great sounds, the musicality value of the patterns is obviously down to personal opinion) and then quite a few 'huh' moments when you hit some of the design quirks.

Yes menu diving is painful. Yes pads are a little rough for anything beyond basic finger drumming and mute\selection etc. Yes loading samples from the card and saving to the card is a kick back to 1997 for all the wrong reasons and yes having only one FX edit button and insert slot for sound is a bit annoying. But all the quirks aside (and the ones they will no doubt fix with future OS releases) it really is a creative little beast, you can get quick results and really generate some cool unexpected results from mangling samples. I have to say the absolute keeper for me is the Ableton integration. Being able to take the patterns you generate and export them as a project is genius.

Incidentally, is there some shift button combination to solo pads. I was playing around and found that shift + mute will unmute anything that is silenced but I want to be able to just quickly solo a single part...there must be a simple way of doing this Im missing. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Give mute button a double-tap and it will flash for solo mode and you can tap one or multiple trigger pads.

Thanks so much for answer.

Hey one more seemingly basic q, maybe I'm missing something simple. I downloaded and installed the Korg usb driver, I assume I should be able to now plug the es2 into my Mac and it shows up as a drive (it's not currently) or do you have to actually use an SD reader as the proxy between the two?
