Mute button to mute output signals to PA system
Hello All,
My wife & I sing in church for Saturday evening mass. Very often I would like to hum or rehearse a hymn or check the chord/s while mass is on. No matter how low I put the volume it is always a disturbance to the congregation.
It would be great if KORG adds a mute button so that only the built in speakers are heard & the output to the PA system is disconnected. This way I can hear my keyboard without disturbing the congregation.
I'm sure many would find this very useful & I don't think it is a very hard thing to do !!
KORG - are you listening ?
Thanks & best regards
Ewart

Perhaps you could use this?

Do you mean a pedal will disconnect the output to the PA system & only play the internal speakers ? I doubt it !! As far as I know the pedal will only lower the volume.
What I require (and may be many others if the facility is provided) is that I want to hear myself on the internal speakers without disturbing anyone else. In other words I need to set the keyboard up for the next hymn & maybe hum the tune to see if everything is fine i.e. tempo, chord, etc.
Thanks

Some of the Q & A for the device I linked above ...
Q: I need something to control the volume while playing backing tracks live from my phone to the pa.. will volume turn completely off?
A: Yes. J. A. Carchio Jr. answered on August 31, 2014
A: Yes, the volume will turn completely off. there is also a volume control nob to control the volume if you don't want it completely off. Michael Swerdlow answered on August 31, 2014
A: Yes it will. And sorry for the delay in answering. I just tested it. There is a knob below the pedal that regulates how much volume is controlled and weather if will completely shut off.

I don't think this will address my requirement. All the answers were regarding volume control & the minimum volume adjustment control when the pedal was pressed fully. The point is the keyboard would still be heard over the PA system & disturb the others.
All I'm asking for is for Korg to have a button somewhere on the keyboard that would disconnect the line out & send the signals to the build-in speakers just as though the line out jack was not inserted.
Ewart.

So you want a separate volume control for the signal going to the pa system?
And you think that trying to get a manufacturer to alter an existing product is the best way to get there?
I don't think so.
Many things you could insert into the signal path on the way to the pa.
Like one of these:
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/LevelPilot?
That would take an adapter but many small mixers are out there that would do the job.
Got one I can sell you cheap too if money is an issue.

This pedal goes between the audio output of your keyboard and the PA system. When you open the pedal fully the signal can be cut off to the PA system but you can still hear the output on the built-in keyboard speakers. It DOES NOT adjust the volume of the keyboard directly, it only controls the amount of signal you send to the PA when set up properly.ewart wrote:I don't think this will address my requirement. If all you want to do is switch the audio out on or off to the PA, just wire yourself up a double pole double throw switch. You'll want a double throw so you can ground the input to the PA to eliminate hum when you switch the signal to OFF.

Re: Mute button to mute output signals to PA system
I also felt the need of such a button, while performed in church choirs.ewart wrote:Hello All,

I think KORG can add a toggle button just like the one disabling the on-board speakers, as an OS update.

I think the solution offered by Thoraldus would work perfectly - you could also use it to avoid the nasty pop if you are in the habit of turning your instrument off before turning your amp off. Just take note of the way to wire it - you need four cables assuming you are doing stereo - 2 from your keyboard to the device and 2 from the device to your amp.
Another solution (and I have one of these) is something like a Yamaha Audiogram digital interface. I think they are up to the Audiogram 6 by now. I have the Audiogram 3 and besides all the USB possibilities for digital recording to a computer it also allows standard cables in and out and you have volume control on the front. Its also UBS powered so theoretically you could power it with your keyboards USB port though I haven't tried this.
Cheers,
John

Thanks guys for your detailed suggestions.
I certainly do not want Korg to modify any existing models - it's too late for that !! Obviously by the time they accept the idea, work on it & get it out in the market, it will take some years. By then my current keyboard would be due for replacement & so I would definitely buy the latest model then.
Sorry I'm not a very technical guy so I don't understand too much of what you'll guys have described. Besides I take my own keyboard to church which means I would need a lot of setting up & dismantling each time.
I'm also glad that one more person feel the same need, I'm sure there will be many more.
If it's not too difficult I think Korg should work on the idea of just adding a button with an indicator on top of the keyboard (above the line out jack) - very soon all the others will follow. No need of adding another volume control, the same one will do.

I still think the pedal I located on Amazon for $25 is your easiest solution. Setup/Tear Down would take at most 30 seconds --- Connect two patch cables between your keyboard and the pedal and connect two PA cables to the pedal.ewart wrote:...

You could also find a local technician who could add a mute button to your keyboard. I would charge about $40-$50 (parts included) to do it.

Since you play and sing maybe you want to put sub mixer between your mic + korg and main Amp.
You can buy online cheap stereo mixer, which can fix your problem.
Behringer XENYX 502 has 3 channel inputs, 2 stereo + 1 mono (mic) and of course main volume control.
is only &40 and can be use in many aplications

Thanks guys, I knew it wouldn't be easy to get Korg to add this feature (specially since Thoraldus says it doesn't cost much !!) but at least I tried.
Some are still not getting it - no matter what I add in between the keyboard & mixer it will still not solve my problem which is being able to hear the built in speakers, whenever I want to, without it being heard on the main PA system. The reason being that the built in speakers are disconnected the moment the line out jack is inserted into the socket.
Thanks anyway guys.

If you use line out to mixer you can hear from speakers, in global setting Global/ Audio & EQ/ Speakers on/off control only build in speakers and headphone output.ewart wrote:

Volume control is control both outputs same time.
1. Line out to mixer, then you fully control main PA via mixer.
2. Build in Speakers use as monitors ( turn of in global if you need it)

The speakers are only disconnected when you use the Headphone output, not when you use the line outs. At least that's the way my PA600 works. Just make sure Speakers are turned on in GLOBAL > AUDIO & EQ > MP3 SPEAKERSewart wrote:!!! Some are still not getting it !!!
