If you get the 12" of Too Shy, you hear a lot of the sounds without drums, so maybe you could sample from there. Otherwise, I think many of the sounds were created on the Roland Jupiter 8, so it might worth seeking out some samples of that synth.

You should be able to duplicate this on a Kronos. Remember it may be more than just a simple filter sweep. He could have other timbres coming in with amplitude envelopes and maybe even multiple patches set up the same way. The Kronos has plenty of sweeping sounds and I'm sure you can find something that is just as effective. If you feel the compulsive urge to duplicate the exact sound, then yes I would try to find a sample. But why bother? that was the eighties. If he is still playing this song today I bet he's using an updated patch anyway.

A little OT, but I couldn't pass up the chance to comment on what an awesome bass player Nick Beggs is. Anybody who can play a Chapman stick has to be good! And he's redeemed himself in later years by playing bass for the likes of Steve Hackett, Kompendium and Steven Wilson.

But go back to those Kajagoogoo days, and listen closely to the bass, and you can say - he was destined for great things even back then. I love his comment on the name Kajagoogoo: "it seemed like a good idea at the time"!

Sorry for the hijack. on-topic service is now resumed. :)

Hey Derek. Totally agree re: Nick Beggs. He also played for Howard Jones at one stage - a great keyboard player who for some reason never used Korg synths :-)

There you go - back on topic :D
