anyone aware of a key combo at boot up to system reset or anything?
I'm guessing you tried to edit the OS?
Upgrade E2 to ES2 and vice versa!

Hey, ditch the schadenfreude, right? This is a genuinely depressing situation, especially if $400 is a lot of money to them, like it is to me.Mulldoon219 wrote:Congratulations. You now have a $400 door stop.mason wrote:![]()

Why not brainstorm ideas on how to help the poster. If the community can hack the OS, maybe we can discover a recovery process.
Someone was eventually going to brick an e2 with this. It would have been safer if the 100% working hacked files were not taken off Facebook and replaced with a semi-complicated tutorial.
Thinking caps, everyone.
Ouch
Maybe there were some misplaced edits outside the header?
I imagine getting something wrong in the header itself would make the electribe reject the file.
I'm not the best person to help, but to better understand the issue some better explanations seem needed. Your problem happened right after the update process and it would no longer boot, is that right?
Also, display is blank, but what about the rest of the unit? Any signs of life?

Really the only difference in what the tutorial laid out is I edited the file inside of a hex editor called Hex Fiend on a mac. Maybe some resource fork problem happen? I don't know, thought was no longer a thing with osx.pauloapo wrote:OuchMaybe there were some misplaced edits outside the header?

Signs of life - just the white screen - some times if I'm holding down a button while pushing the power button instead of staying solid white bright it will flicker at like 2hz. Sometimes not. have tried many button combos, while powering after powering, etc... Cracked it open and looked around or a 'press to reset' button, but nothing like that is around.
Re: bricked
There are known users here with the working files. Perhaps a few well-placed PM's and a torrent upload would solve the problem?Ted3000 wrote: It would have been safer if the 100% working hacked files were not taken off Facebook and replaced with a semi-complicated tutorial..
Visit https://ghostwrittenclips.com for a FREE pack of robot-war/mech/cinematic fx samples. =)
And sadly, the only documented factory restore procedure is accessed by the menus. If it were only the display gone blank a key combo could do the trick.
Only resort I can see is taking it to service. I wouldn't be too chatty about flashing adultered firmware at it and hope the job is done on the warranty.

Keep eyes peeled for a service manual. The EMX/ESX ones are out there, but nothing yet for the grey and black machines.
There has to be a way to have the standard OS update file on an SD card and boot it with a key combo. The ESX/EMX had a combo to flash the chips from files on a card.

Sorry - if his box got stolen, burned, crushed, or dropped I would gladly give some sympathy. But when you mess around with stuff you know nothing about you get what you get. My thinking cap says if you want the sampler either buy it or wait to see if Korg comes out with an official update. This half-ass hacker bullshit is just stupid -- and now the chickens have come home to roost.Ted3000 wrote:Hey, ditch the schadenfreude, right? Just a thought. Could you do a reset blindly... By counting arrow pushes until you'd be at the appropriate setting and pushing enter once you're at a factory reset button... In all honesty I haven't read the whole thread.., but I'm curious whether or not because the display is blank if button pushes and functions still work to a point.... For instance.. I'm not in front of my box but say you hit menu and 5 right arrows over is "reset" a little like battleship theoretically. All the best!

Yes yes. It's all fun and great until someone loses a groovebox.pauloapo wrote:Mulldoon219 wrote:Sorry - if his box got stolen, burned, crushed, or dropped I would gladly give some sympathy.
