Sequencer question: Assigning a musical phrase to one key
Hello.
I've had my KX88 for a few years now and have had a great time learning some of the ins n outs of some aspects of sound design, creating combis for my band but now can no longer avoid the sequencer. Here's my situation:
My band is doing Separate Ways by Journey and I'd like to utilize the sequencer for the middle section main melody line @3:44 while I play the high part above it live. It wouldn't be a loop but a one shot at 132bpm. Our drummer plays to a click so tempo shouldn't be a factor.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afHQd-lP4yU
What I'd like to achieve is the ability to assign a single key to trigger the sequence melody within a combi...say key C-0 for example. I've tried working through the Op Guide but this being my first foray into the world of sequencing it is all a bit foreign and scary to me. I'm hoping there's a relatively simple way to do this. Any help you guys can provide would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Kevin

you can do it using RPPR but why not just just play it live?
I split the combi over 2 boards - play the high whistle part with my left hand (bottom keyboard: kronos) and the riff / main synth part with my right (top keyboard: m-audio controller)...

Another idea is, record the part you want as a sample. Once you're happy with your recorded part (sample), save it and convert it to a program. Create a Combi, set a keyboard zone to low C, assign the program to that key, then when your big part comes around just play the low C along with the high part. Ta Da!!!

Once I've recorded the phrase, it is Midi Track 01. Where is the option to save this phrase? (to disk vs ram I assume?) Is this now a sng file? Secondly, once it is saved how do I convert to program so that I can reference it into a combi? Sorry for sounding like such a noob, but there really is no clear direction anywhere in the Op Guide or on YouTube or on the forum for this sort of thing that I could find.

Once you have recorded and saved the sample, tap the 'V' (top right of the screen) to view the drop down box options. You can tap "Convert MS To Program", just save it somewhere in your EE or FF user files. Then put your new program in the Combi. Hope this helps.

The problem I'm having is actually recording and saving the sample.....as stupid as that sounds. Again sorry for beating this to death but I'm seriously stuck at this point.
I am in program mode on the sound I want. I go to sequence mode - I hit record and record the phrase at the bpm I want. That is where i simply cannot go futher. How do I save the track I just recorded as a sample? My only option that I can see is to save template song. What am I doing wrong?

Success! To a point. Was able to record and convert to program. Like a noob, I was using the rec button vs the sample rec button to capture my event.
The only thing still a bit unclear to me are the proper steps to then save this newly created program to disk so that it is always there when I power up the Kronos. It disappeared when I powered down and back up again. Will search the forum and Op Guide further.
Thank you for all your help!
