I want buy a hardware sequencer to create sequences that play the four samples on the KP3 via Midi:
- Is this possible?
- Will a sample be playing as long as it lasts or only as long as no Note Off event is transmitted? In other words: Will the sample be playing as long as it lasts or only as long as the note length specified by the sequencer?
- Do you have experience using a sequencer for this purpose? Anything to take into consideration? I'm thinking about buying the Beatstep Pro or the Zaquencer.
Many thanks!
(I looked through all the messages in the forum for sequencers but could not find an answer to my questions.)
Using a sequencer to play samples on the KP3?

Yes this is definitely doable.
You've already identified possible stumbling blocks with note length.
The KP3 has 6 different ways of sample play. Two are one shot, either play until end ,or as long as held.
Four loop types being retigger start on note on or continuous play ,even when off. Both these types have toggle on or as long as note held type play ,so there's the choice there.
I went for ones shots aswell as loop play (via an ER1 that only provides brief note on message). I found I could do loops on and off with two sets of note on messages. This involved a 2nd note in sequence just before beginning of next loop start ,ie one note on for start ,then another note on msg at end to turn off loop (quickly) before next loop start.
That worked ,or one shot play back works too.
You do sacrifice some freeform ,freestyling multiple "jump in " type loop play back ability that is unique to KP3 loops, but gain in automated sample triggering.
