The electribes are a groove box, for making grooves to dance to. Four on the floor is the easiest groove to dance to and the best for long term longevity of a genre. House and techno have been around since the middle 80's, and aren't going anywhere.

People who aren't making dance music don't really have any right to complain about any Electribe features, because that's what it's for. You certainly can make other music with it, but that's never going to be what it's best at. Noise "artists" and experimental musicians would be a lot better off with semi-modular synths, modular synths or computer based instruments.

So no, nobody will or should stop writing 4/4 dance tracks anymore and people will stop composing pop and rock in C-major and A-minor anymore either. The basics work well that's why their the basics.

Also it's pretty rare that techno does not have a syncopated rhythm in there somewhere. EDM tracks usually have 4-8 layers of percussion going at any given time.

This is a example of a subgenre that is minimal as hell 4/4, and has a whole culture of dancing around it. Fair warning, this is Chicago ghetto house, it's all about weed, hoes and juking. Most is done on cheap BOSS drum machines.

For the record, "Windowlicker" is absolutely a classic drill&bass track. I can also understand acknowledging it's connection to classic techno, although some of the cats I grew up with (in Detroit, late eighties/early nineties) are old farts and would argue all day about it. As far as "IDM" is concerned, the (stupid name for a) genre is a throwback to the "Artificial Intelligence" compilations where the braindance-style first came on the scene. Seriously, you guys chould hear some of the early nineties, all-hardware (of course) I recorded in this era.. lol. Still enjoyable after all these years. =)

One thing my momma always told me... Don't fight the feeling.
If I'm not listening to music, or if I'm not making music, then I'm probably thinking about music.

Volca Sample, FM, Beats, Kick. OP-1, Monologue, Pocket Operators. And an ipad.

The Nazi party in Germany intentionally used the um-pa um-pa march beat to dumb people down and believe what they were saying.

Thats why you hear so much 4 on the floor techno at the mall.

It dumbs you down.

I have nothing against simple music but that s**t takes it to such an infantile level that I thought it was worth starting an argument about.

Techno is THE most pure form of electronic music. I wish more people made it.

Hey, anybody old enough to remember Adamski? Last year he released an entire album of electronic dance music, called "Revolt" that was in 3/4 time (he calls it 3-step or Future Waltz). He was featured in a Sonic Talk podcast a while back where he talks extensively about it, here's the link...

You just have a very narrow view, techno is most certainly NOT defined by a 4 on the floor drum pattern. The dreadful IDM/EDM name was invented later to describe a subset of techno that already existed as techno music.
Wow.... I never said techno was defined by a 4 on the floor drum pattern, I just said that the one particular track listed, was not Techno....

IDM is a genre.... EDM is not....

That said I'm not a huge fan of genrefication but somethings definitely fit a certain mold, and most people want to classify things so were stuck with them I think.

For example window licker by aphex twin is as techno as anything 4 to the floor.
No, That's definitely more IDM and DRill'n'Bass. NOT in any way TECHNO....unless you are one of those people that considers all "Electronic Dance Music" to be "Techno"

Nothing wrong with a 4 on the floor beat every now and then though, to each his/her own.....
I've heard surgeon put a 4-4 behind that track, it's as techno as an abandoned car plant :)

An no I wouldn't qualify anything as techno, defo not drill/bass pffft!
Well you didn't specify it was a remix you were refering to....And I have nothing against techno so no hard feelings eh? now the OP obviously hasnt heard any good techno....go listen to a Ritchie Hawtin mix or something....definitley not boring.
