Dear Anyone.
I've got a collection of different soundbanks for the Korg M1 VST but I need a bunch of questions answered because I've never changed soundbanks before.
1.) If I've got (say) 2 versions (or more) of the M1 going and change the soundbank in ONE of them, will the second one still have the original soundbank in or will they both now be using the new soundbank?
2.) If I have 1 instance of the M1 going and I change its soundbank, on exiting the DAW will it, the next time I open the DAW and use it, have the CHANGED soundbank in it or the ORIGINAL soundbank?
3.) If I change a soundbank and leaving the DAW without purposely saving a copy of the M1 does NOT bring the original soundbank back for next time's use, how do I save a copy of the ORIGINAL soundbank (I've read about SYSEX but I'm not the world's greatest geek, I THINK I understand it but I'm a little - OK very - scared abouit doing it wrong and losing the original soundbank. I'm THINKING that if I do that and reinstall my original legitimately bought copy it'll reinstall the original soundbank but Im not sure about that either!)
4.) (and last!) If I have more than one instance of the M1 going and change the soundbank in ONE instance, on leaving the DAW which soundbank will be saved with the M1? Next time I go to use it will it have the 'new' soundbank in it or the original factory soundbank?
II'm sorry if I've used the wrong techie terms - by 'soundbank' I mean 'list of patches/patchlist that comes up when the Korg's first installed' Or changed soundbank.
And if someone could point me in the directioin of anything that explains SysEx patch/bank changing in words suitable for the geekily-challenged amongst us, it would be greatly appreciated. Once I get USED to doing it I'll be fine, it's just I don't want to discover the hard way I've jus b***sed the whole M1 up and can't even reinstall it to get the original patches back!
Yours hopefully - sorry for being a NOOB!!
Chris.

I hope you don't mind me saying, but kinder words might get better responses. Also, there are several questions in the posting. I think it's better to keep it simple, one point at a time. The questions can probably be answered with a little experimentation and any problems that arise can be posted on the forum. If you're afraid of losing something in the process, back it up first.

The risk of losing the so-called soundbanks is negligible and, in any case, you should still have the original installation files to restore them from, should the need arise.
It's possible to save the set with different M1 VST programs or combis in each of the M1 instances, and then to restart Live and reload the Live set and have those Programs and Combis still active. Your experience with other VST hosts may differ, but trial and error will give the answer.
Not sure which DAW you're using, but posting your experiences here may well help others.
