I'll say it again:
Order from a retailer with a good return policy. That's good advice any time your spending money on something new...

I just bought a New Old stock EMX-1 on eBay.
After careful consideration, and much research, I have come to the conclusion that the E2 is not what I am looking for.
I disagree on the drums - they are not suitable for anything approaching professional dance music production(the selection on the EMX is fantastic).
Yes, I understand that they can be run through the synth engine, but that will not alter the fact that the selection of samples are fundamentally unsuitable for my genre - there is a reason why 90% of the Youtube demos out there are ambient.
I don't need pad sounds, so monophonic parts are not a big deal - if necessary, I can link to an AN200 for polyphony.

I'm glad that you have made a choice... But IMO there are so many ways you can change the sound of a kickdrum. I think that even with one of the noisy hip hop drums you can make a nice edm/trance kick by using a filter and an envelope, and maybe some modulation and filters.... For me that's the whole fun part: exploring new sounds with sounds that seems uninteresting before.Paragone wrote:I just bought a New Old stock EMX-1 on eBay.

There really is a reason why most productions favor good sample sources over sine waves.Spheric El wrote:Have to agree with MaartenNI .
I'd say with the better choice on the e2 drums ,with edits an filters ,then any style (almost) of electronic styles can be made.
The seq will have a bigger impact on achieving your sound easily, and this sounds like emx is a better choice for you.
Yes, you can run sounds through a filter eg, and apply modulations - but it will take more than that to achieve desirable results.
I'd rather do no more work than needed, and the emx drums sound great to begin with.
All IMO.
