wavestation banks- how to easily find strings, pads, etc.
I've owned the Wavestation Legacy VST for about 6 months. Love many of the sounds but hate the way banks are organized. If I want to quickly preview available string sounds, it's impossible. I have to look through event bank, scan to find string items, and then preview them. Has anyone ever developed a cheat sheet of where to find certain kinds of sounds, for example, String sounds: ROM1-25, ROM2-13, etc. ?

Hi there, regarding your question, no. There is no short-cut or quick way to find category patches on the legacy WS.
As you can imagine there are literally thousands of patches available for the WS besides the ones included with the software itself.
Back in the early 90's when the synth was released there was no such thing as a category search, and the software follows the sane path. Even if the software had that feature it would only help you to find the patches included with the software, as the other hundreds of libraries available for the WS will not recognize that feature.
You will need to browse through all the patches and choose the ones relevant to you, and build your own banks organized the way you feel is best

how to create banks in Wavestation
Thanks for your reply. Regarding your suggestion that I create banks for specific instrument types, how is this done. I've browsed through the Wavestation manual, but wasn't able to find any information specifically about this. And since there are no User Cards, will I have to overwrite within one of the existing Wavestation banks?

Hi, regarding your question:
There are no dedicated (empty) user banks on the WS. The user writable /programmable banks are Ram1, 2 and 3 as on the original, and the Rom's (4 to 11) are fix (not modifiable). However, if you want to modify a Rom patch you can copy it or save it to a Ram bank and save changes there. You'll have to overwrite the patch saved at that location tho...
Unfortunately its a royal pain to organize easily your sounds on the Ram banks as you can see because of this limitation.
It was understandable on the real WS, but not on the software one, as you could have dozens of user banks available, but Korg chosen to keep this limitation, so that's what we have to live with.
Be sure to fully understand the architecture of the sounds first tho.
The sounds on the WS are called performances, and can be constructed from a group of 8 patches max. and/or wavesequences.
