WTF ? so Yamaha is basically telling us that recording of 10,000 stock arps into cubase does not work properly. unbelievable. the chickens come home to roost. early montage customers are having to pay the price for believing that there was no need for a recorder with basic sequencer functions, such as copy and delete. even smorenburg had to find a workaround for recording stuff in a meaningful way. what a shame. meanwhile korg staffers are laughing themselves silly. btw, the term "music synthesizer" is the dumbest tautology of all time. what else, other than making music, can you do with a synthesizer, for god´s sake?!?
I don't laugh at Yamaha or the Montage, and I still think the Montage has a lot of really well usesable sounds.

.
most new owners love the quality of the new sounds.

My perspective is mostly from " what would a 2nd board bring me " .

and what nags me is that I suspect I can find similar quality for certain instruments by adding MainStage. and thats not $4000.

I needed my own hauling truck with a lift gate.
This brought back memories. In one of my early attempts at college, I had a Fender Rhodes 88 in my dorm room. (Helped a lot in my Music Theory classes.) At the end of one year, I convinced a couple of friends to help me move the Fender Rhodes to my car for the cost of a shared pizza.

I lived on the third floor of the dorm.

The day I was moving out was the day that the elevators broke.
We had 1 roadie to help us with gigs. My band members were really good about helping haul my stuff.

Those days are long gone. AFAIAC, we are living in the best of times with our Kronos.
In my old house, a small bungalow, when my daughter was born, the keyboards had to go up in the attic. So loads of fun was had hauling 25KGs of Yamaha EX5 (including flight case) up and down from the loft. In the end, I installed a manual car winch (the sort of one for hauling yourself out of trouble if you have a handy tree near by), and put a "staple hook" on the end of the flight case. That worked pretty well, but it was too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter, so when we moved house the one criteria for the new house that I had was a room for a music studio on the ground floor!

Thanks bro, I wore out a few Yes 8-track tapes in my '75 Chevy Nova... the Muntz Stereo shop put a third speaker in the rear passenger deck that turned out to be the first subwoofer I'd ever heard

"I have been using my XF8 for over 3 years and as I play mostly solo and duo Jazz gigs having performances with drums, bass keys and a pad is a must. I have spent hundreds of hours customizing XF performances and using "Master Mode" (As A Montage Live Set Equivalent) so that I am able to call up what I need almost instantly.

After spending a couple of hours playing a Montage at a local store I don't seem find anything like the performances I could use already on board. With all the talk about why currently XF performances can't be ported over the fact remains if i can't mine into a Montage somehow, I will be unable to play a gig with the new board.

So first off is there any plan/way/method of re-creating my custom performances on a Montage, I don't mean is it theoretically possible how do you actually do it? If I trade in my XF8 to get the Montage then I all I have is a USB stick with the data file of my old XF. I do have the John Melas "XF Performance Editor" would that be of any use in performing the Montage re-programing task?

I really want to upgrade to Montage but absent a practical solution to this problem I am at a standstill. Surely I am not the only one with this issue.

"Look at this way...Yamaha almost finish the DX 7 patches compatibility with a synth created 36 years ago, but they won't make a fully compatible machine with a synth that including all the raw waveforms as the Motif? seriously ?...ahhh new technology ! the illumminatis said , so wtf ?... the FM is doing inside the Montage ? I'll wait, thanks Yamaha....

..
wise course is to wait. See what other XF owners have to go thru to play their XF custom performances on a Montage. If it were me, I would have both boards side by side for some time. I would not get attached to a board that does not do the main job for me.

If the process does not work, keep your XF and save a few thousand $$$. Unless you have another great need for the Montage.

And, in my case I don't ' need ' every new cool board that comes out. I can sit back and analyze if its worthwhile to spend $4000.
