Kronos as an iPad host, individual outputs
Hello everyone,
I'm away from my Kronos but I'm thinking of a way how to optimize my setup a bit. In order for me to be able to do that, I'd have to use iPad running Auria connected to the Kronos, and use its individual outputs. I've seen some reports that Kronos works well with Auria after configuring the sample rate correctly, but I can't find any info about my specific situation. So - here it is. Is it possible to connect your iPad running Auria to Kronos, and use Kronos's individual outputs to output sound via (example) two separate stereo mixes?
If I remember correctly, when you're setting this on the Kronos, it offers only something like an "USB stereo output" configuration possibilities and that's that?

Kronos only works as a 2 channel output interface. So it's not possible to address other than the main L/R outputs via USB Host applications.
The 2 S/P DIF optical channels and 2 USB channels output always the same signal as the main L/R output.

Why not use the iConnectivity iConnectMIDI1 Lightning Edition Kit to connect using standard MIDI cables IN/OUT from the Ipad Pro to the Kronos? This should give you standard 16 track in/out. I use this on my iPad Pro with both the Kronos and the Pa4x. I don't have the software you are referring to, but it works well with Moog 15M, Animoog, and Sunrizer apps.

Not in front of my Kronos at this moment to check - but I suspect it is possible...
Because you can route the incoming iPad audio through Kronos IFX, surely you can then send those IFX outputs to individual outputs 3/4 say and leave the Kronos own audio coming out of L/R?

Sander explained everyhing - it's not about MIDI, it's about separate outputs for individual mixeskbrkr wrote:Why not use the iConnectivity iConnectMIDI1 Lightning Edition Kit to connect using standard MIDI cables IN/OUT from the Ipad Pro to the Kronos? P.S. Yes, I know that there's a iConnectivity interface that has MIDI and audio. I already have that with Fireface so that's not what I was asking about.

Honestly the UCX is a pretty bitchin' device. I have one too. With TotalMix on the iPad I'm sure any and all of your routing needs are completely taken care of. I understand the desire to remove a piece of gear from the chain but the UCX is so flexible and good sounding it deserves a place. Probably more advanced of a mixer than what the FOH brings, half the time. Especially if you add some ADAT I/O.
You can use the audio menu in Global->Basic->Audio to choose which Bus you want the USB audio to go to.
It can be any of the following:
- L/R
- IFX 1 to IFX 12
- 1 to 4 (individually)
- 1/2
- 3/4
I've been using USB 1 and USB 2 routed to 1/2 and then just panned the inputs.
And that gives me L/R outputs for the Kronos, and the 1/2 outputs for the iPad/Mac/PC etc..
But @bobmusic is correct that it is two channel only.
