EM-1, velocity and program change on MIDI OUT?

Post by LamptonWorm »

Hi all,

I've connected my EM-1 up to drive an E-MU 9090 module. The basics work, I can step sequence synth 1, 2 and the drums on different channels.

However I've been unable to get a few other things working and I'm wondering if they are possible at all, and if so, do I need something like a MIDI Solutions event processor in the mix (no laptop/CPU in the setup).

1) Velocity ... using step edit I can edit the 'level' of each step, works fine for the EM-1 internal sound, but I can't get this to register as velocity on the E-MU end (notes all sound the same level).

2) Program Change ... I can set it up so changing the pattern on the EM-1 changes the Program on the E-MU but what I'd like to do is have something like the wave select (or other knob) change the Program for the current channel, just like a sound/preset selector

3) Pattern>Program 'memory' ... is it possible for say Pattern 1 to 'remember' it uses Bank 1: Program 2 for Synth 1:Channel 1, and for Pattern 2 to use Bank 2: Program 9 for Synth 1:Channel 1?

4) Can the 'spare' (not using some aspects of internal sound manipulation) knobs be set to regular CC for controlling things like filter settings on the E-MU? Suspect this is where the NPRN > CC stuff kicks in, not sure if I can set the EM-1 to do this itself or you always need a middle man to convert..

Sorry if these are basic questions/restrictions just working out what to continue to pursue and what to work around.

Cheers!
LW.

Can't answer your questions I'm afraid but I'm curious about your username. Are you a Geordie?

I get asked that sometimes :) I'm not a Geordie, but I read about the Lambton (different spelling) Worm when I was young and it kinda stuck!

Ah okay I see. It's a cool story. I did notice the difference in spelling but I'm a Geordie myself and some folk round my way can't spell their own name never mind the title of a legendary local beast, so thought I'd ask anyway.
