How to record 16 combi-midi trks to Logic w/ or w/o 4 Karma

Post by openroad »

I'm trying to get the setup right for recording 16 separate midi tracks from a combi with or without Karma from a K2 into a new iMac and new Logic Pro X.

I've searched here and read and watched everything midi on Kronos and Logic I could find, think I know where all the midi-variables are, and have tried countless combinations of settings, but I'm obviously not getting it, and probably especially with sync and clocks.

Succeeded in playing a combi live and recording to a Logic Midi-All track, but it does not demix although set to 'auto demix...' in project settings/RECORDING, nor does it 'separate by midi channel' if I bring up the menu with that choice in the midi track.

Never succeeded in getting separate tracks set to different midi channels in Logic to record combi out tracks separately. Also tried recording to the sequencer first and sending that out.

I'm using a USB-B out of the Kronos directly into an iMac USB-A in. I have a Saffire I'll use if I have to, but hoping to keep it simpler.

Anyone willing to lay this out step by step from scratch? I'd be willing to paypal someone too for their time on the phone to save all the typing.

Much appreciation.
Thanks in advance.

When you play from combi mode, you are only transmitting on the global channel. To trigger parts independently from Logic, each part of the combi needs to be on a different channel and will be triggered by a different track in Logic set to the same channel. You will need to record I into logic one track at a time.

Combi only transmits on Gch even if the Gch tracks are set to different midi channels on the 'timbre paramenter' page? That does appear to be what is happening.

Is it the same with the sequencer? If I recorded the combi into the sequencer can I get it's separate midi channels to record separately to Logic at the same time?

Is this actually clearly explained in the manual somewhere?

I keep wondering if the midi driver has something to do with it. When I turn the Kronos on with Logic running it tells me 'you now have 1 in and 1 out midi channel'.... why not 16 in/out?

Thank you very much for your reply and help.

A Combi will transmit the other channels if you select "EXT" or "EXT2" under Status on the Play -> ProgSelect/Mixer page. Similar story in sequencer mode.

It's definitely clearly explained in the manual. I don't have it handy, or I would find the page for you.
