I am also wondering about the differences between the .pkg and .upd files. Are the results the same? The accompanying instructions doesn't give any guidance - tells you to select either a pkg or upd file

UPD file is the new factory OS/Resources encrypted format container that Korg Pa invested mainly for future use ,
where backwards OS compatibility will be prevented , and might be applied to all PaSeries , providing new features.
Already from OS v1.21 main PaSeries hard core is encrypted , and next step was the PKG container for the rest resources.
This will ensure factory resources protection against PKG unpacking/hacking tools that appeared around network ...

Hi Antony,
sorry, your post was a bit too technical for me, is it possible to put it a bit more simply ie how it will affect us ?
best wishes

Hello!
It will not affect normal users in any way (at least not bad way)...
If they drop support for older OS , it will be only a security measure against cracking.

Many musicians Korg PA3X players to use the MP3 function harmonizer which itself! can create vocal harmonies. There is no need to enter the hand chords. ! Everyone I know wants and waits in Pa4x this feature. I expect when it comes to MP3 harmonizer Pa4x so I can use it. It's an amazing opportunity.

Should Factory Protect Be Disabled for Updates

Post by robkeith »

Just wondering? It doesn't say it in the upgrade instructions, but should factory protect be disabled for updates. Makes sense if it should?

what are your thoughts

Factory protect is a usermode function (like a "read-only" button in a pc program) when you install a new os these settings are not being read by the updater, it bypasses everything automatically...

So when does the factory protect get over written if it's a read only?

I think that, like the rest of us, ones skill set will still be the determining factor, rather than a minor update. I have wished for a magic wand for 50 years and never got it. Good old fashioned hard work and experience is the answer.
