I LOVE this kb. I really do, but this explains my actions:

Uncle Dave,
So did you try the Korg PaAS speakers? For the situations you describe, I think they are great, no extra cables, and easy to transport as well

Yes, I had the PAAS speaker bar at first, but as I posted earlier, there is a major design flaw in how it handles the signals that are INPUT to the 4x. I use an iPad that is fed into the 1/8" stereo aux in 2. This input does NOT feed into the speaker bar. ONLY the main L+R outputs of the KB are sent to the PAAS. I had Korg on the phone to verify. There is no plan to correct this either, so the sound bar is not an option. I need to monitor my entire rig, and the PAAS cannot do that.

Woah!!!!
Dave!!!! Completely understand you dilemma but to have to "go back" is a disaster!!!!
Have you not considered some of the fabulous little speaker systems that are available? (I'm sure you have)
Carting a small system that would sit nicely by your feet wouldn't be much more "inconvenient" than the PAas.
Sorry - I'll shut up - it's just a shame that you have to "go back"
All the best
Pete

Hi Pete,
Many of my performances are done in very tight quarters, and the floorspace is at a premium, not to mention the extra bulk to transport, and setup. My primary tool, as an artist is my voice, and if I cannot monitor that in a favorable way, my performance is compromised. As great as the 4X sounds and feels, it does not afford me the availability to monitor as I need to.
Bringing in extra gear has never been a "thing" of mine - I travel light, set up fast, break down fast, and move on. That's my work ethic, and it's served me well.
The improvements that the 4X gives me are still second to the vocals, so in truth, my show will not be compromised that much. In fact, I may be the one who notices the most. My pecking order of importance (in MY shows) is:
1] vocals
People identify with words.
2] bass
Bass makes people "feel" the music. (bass is what they dance to, not drums)
3] chords (mostly Rhodes/Piano/Wurli/vibes/organ - sometimes string pads)
The chords paint the backdrop for my musical portrait
4] everything else is gravy.

Dave, I've followed your posts for years but never needed to respond before. I've worked as many tiny tight spaces as you have, trust me.
I use a pair of Behringer B208D's for exactly what you need, close in monitoring. The problem with Behringer powered speakers is you can't push them at all, they start to sound shrill and bad but for this application they sound great.
I found a used pair a couple years ago for $245 including shipping. The first time I tried them out I set them on the floor right next to my stand, on the left and right. they're wedges so I put them on their sides pointing right at my head and I was using an EV ELX 112P for my main stage amp. I put the volume about half and they damn near blew me off my seat. They are very powerful that close to you.
I'm 70, these little things are about 11" tall and fit in a repurposed power amp soft case I had laying around. If I can schlep them, you can too but you're a pro, I'm not trying to preach to you. They have line outs so the cables go from the Korg to these then from one of those to your Bose. Another benefit is you get glorious stereo right in your face and if you have even a little bit of room spread them apart a few feet and the stereo effect is even better.
All I can say is I would never, EVER give up that Pa4x, I would make it work somehow. It just sounds too good.

Hi Bob,
I hear ya, and believe me, it's something that I considered carefully before making this decision. The cold, hard truth, in this matter, is that I will not make 5 cents more if I use the 4x, but I will save time, space, and make a neater presentation using the 900. I custom built a special bracket that mounts on the "X" stand to hold a monitor (FX-150), and it was OK, but it blocked some line-of-sight view, and looked a bit bulky. There are also many, many jobs I do, that require only the on board speakers, and one small monitor does not sound the same, or cover as well, as the built in set on the 900. Sometimes I bring the Bose Compact without the extensions, and just place the base unit at the foot of my stand for added bass response. I can carry that setup in one trip, with no huffing, no puffing, and no blowing the doors down. (with volume) lol
Not sure this will work, but I'll try to post a picture of my 900 rig. The floorboard to my left is only for when I need guitar or an extra mic. I don't always use guitar at work.
I'm not arguing, and I really DO appreciate your input. I guess I'm just trying to share the idea of presentation and setup-ease.

I play the 900 and like you more than half of my jobs are with onboard speakers. the 900 has 20 watts per side and is much better than my psr s910 was, even though it was and is a great board. I also use an audio technica pro8 hex headworn mic so nobody hits my mic stand and my i pad is attached to my keyboard stand on my left side. It's amazing how good the 900 sounds with just onboard speakers. It's even better with my bose compacts but most of the time, no room to use them. I tryed the shure wh20 xlr mic but the AT is
so much cleaner and hotter and the harminizer is just great. I'ts all I need and one trip in and out.
I don't think you are going backwards but going smart. the PA900 is the top of the line keyboard that has built in speakers. To quote a wize man I can't play a slab, I like built in speakers, oh wait that was you.

If I had the 4x on this gig, it would have been a disaster for my monitoring. There is simply no room, and no need for the bulky look of speakers in these society settings.
