Volca FM, Midi control issue

Post by rlg06f »

I recently bought a Volca FM and love the sounds I am getting out of the unit. Although the ribbon controller and the on board sequencer are fantastic, I want to use the unit primarily through a midi keyboard. I have an M-audio keystation 49e that is more than ripe for the task; I use it to also control my Volca Bass and Volca Keys on sessions and live.

When I first plugged the Keystation (with it's own power supply, not via usb, and directly via 5 pin din) I noticed two strange behaviors:

First, the unit responds differently to repeated to pressing of the same key. For example, striking the B below middle C (B3) resulted sometimes in F#3 or G2.

Secondly, as I would test notes up and down the keyboard, some notes would sustain indiscriminately and not allow subsequent pressed keys to trigger until well after the note has rung out.

Additionally, some keys further up the range (B1 and above) would not play from the midi keyboard although the would easily be triggered from the ribbon keyboard. I have dug through the manual for the Volca FM and the Keystation, performed the version 3 update on the FM, reset the Keystation to factory settings, and dug through the forums here, all with no resolution to the persistent issues.

Does anyone here have a suggestion or a clue? I would love to keep the unit as the sounds are immaculate for the price point, but not being able to play it with a real keyboard pretty much kills any interest I would have in exploring the unit.

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

This sounds to me more a problem around the MIDI connection itself. Hanging notes, missing notes, wrong notes...
Check the cable (try another one), use new batteries in the FM, ...
Also try to control it with another keyboard than the M-Audio.

Good luck.
