I'm very glad that this update sounds terrific. Being that I have not updated since OS 2.0.6, are there any special considerations I should be aware of? I remember reading about a past firmware update and I never got to that point. Will everything be explained in the update instructions for my case, or do they assume you already have the previous most recent update? After getting my Kronos set up exactly where I like it I was afraid to update further based on the number of complications and difficulties some people had reported. Basically, can I load the latest update directly, or do I have to do other steps before I can use the latest one? Thanks and happy holidays. Hal

the subsystem firmware update is specific to Kronos model. Kronos 2 has its own version, for example.

I recommend you go to Korg web site to find the firmware update for your Kronos generation. It appears that you have the very first ( 5 yrs ago) Kronos, which is what I have.

I also recall various difficulties posted over the past 5 yrs. Myself and others assist folks who bump into a problem. I don't believe those problems
are universal. My opinion is that they are an exception. Usually a step is skipped, the USB stick is old or has a non relevant file, the initial D/L was incomplete, etc, etc, etc.

You are welcome to PM me if you have something specific.

There are 8 pages of release notes on 3.1 you can read.

Thanks Greg. Yes I have the first gen K. I will of course backup my settings and patches first. I have about 150 of my own customized programs and combos plus about 6 downloaded sound sets What happens to the existing program and combo lists slots and links when the OS Update adds new sounds? Will it overwrite my own programs or push them over to other nearby slot locations? Does that mess up any set list to program connections? Will I lose some of what I have and have to add back some or all of what I have backed up?

The OS has no new sounds. No programs, no combis

Now it gets interesting. You d/l'd 6 sound sets. from ...

I do not recall if any OS update added additional empty program/combi banks.
My guess if that actually was an OS feature , it should not interfere with your existing custom work.

And set list programming is very important, I would guess. OS upgrades
should not break the references you made.

for your piece of mind, I would google the OS upgrade events and see if anything risky jumps out. Each upgrade should have release notes that can be reviewed.

In general, the OS upgrades made sample streaming from Korg 3rd party developers available. Plus the inevitable bug fixes. I honestly do not
recall the bugs affecting my Kronos or got in the way.

One of the release notes says they improved the half damper. Maybe it's just the power of suggestion but I find it much improved. Thanks Korg!

My Kronos has been on 5 hours . I am jamming on it, using Karma, etc, etc. making my cats dance.

Greg, Thanks again for your response. I'll be sure to read and follow all the documentation meticulously. If your cats are dancing, the update must really be good. I'll look forward to seeing the Kronos cat dancing video on YouTube soon.

Thanks again to Korg. The quick layers/splits are a fabulous extension of Kronos' capabilites. The only downside I can see to this feature is that Smooth Sound Transitions don't apply. It could be that two 16-timbre Combis combined bite into the computing resource required for SST.

You can't make cats dance. Cats will observe carefully, and dance only when they feel like it. Once in awhile, they will dash across a keyboard and contribute to a waltz. But only on their schedules.

A new version of Kronos Editor and Plug-In Editor (3.1) is announced in the release notes. 64bit-support on the horizon?
KRONOS Editor and Plug-In Editor 3
Version 3.1.0 adds support for the KRONOS Editor and Plug-In Editor 3.1, which let you edit and organize sounds from your Mac OS X or Windows computer. Plug-in operation allows you to save settings as part of your project with any VST- compatible Windows software, or any VST- or AU- compatible software on Mac OS X. The KRONOS Editor and Plug-In Editor 3.1 will be available for free download at http://www.korg.com
Best regards, Robert

Thank you KORG!

Merry Christmas everyone!

New update = a little snippet of what the future might be...

It seems a few little problems or bugs need to be sorted BUT

Re splits and Layers feature:

* Nice clear GUI
* I very much like the display that shows the split / layers and keys pressed / levels / etc
* When exiting back to the old menus they seem errm... well.... OLD...

Keep up the good work!
