Drum Beats between Combis

Post by musicbygordongeorge »

If I start a drum beat in one combi and then switch to another combi, the drum beat stops. Is there some way to set up the keyboard so that the drum beat keeps going between combis?

There is a setting in the P7 Arp/DT Drum Track tab Trigger section called Mode. The Mode can be set to "start immediately". If this has been done and the Combi has been saved with the Drum Track switch in the "on" state, then the drums associated with the Combi will start to sound the moment the Combi is switched to. If the drum tracks in both Combis are the same and the tempo is the same, then the changeover may appear seamless.

Another way of keeping a drum track going, whilst changing timbres, might be to keep all timbres in the same Combi and zoning the keyboard, which restricts the keys available (better with an 88-key), or use Mute/Unmute.

Alternatively, a separate drum machine.

Thank you for the advice. I set up two combis to start immediately; however, when I try to save the combi with the drum track switch lit for "on", the light goes out once the save process is completed and the drum beat doesn't stay on when I go to the next combi.

The reason I didn't split the keyboard into zones is because I have the 61 key model so I would run out of space for zones, and also because I use several sounds in each combi, and if I use too many sounds in a combi, the sound quality seems to go down. As a result, I have one combi for piano, another for brass, etc.

Sorry for the misleading info. The same behaviour occurs with the Kronos, when start immediately is selected, so slightly illogical, since the Drum Track button state is saved when the Wait for Keyboard Trigger option is selected. It could be communicated to Korg as a feature request.

Thanks anyways. For the most part, I don't use more than 2 to 3 sounds on any song so I guess I should try to stay within a combi and switch between 2 or 3 sounds.

Just received a reply from Korg, and they confirmed that you can not keep the beat going if you switch combis so I guess that's that.

The instrument's firmware would probably only need one line of code to be commented out in order to make it properly save the state of the Drum Track button when the "start immediately" Trigger option is set.

That would really raise the popularity and versatility of the Krome if Korg would do that.
