Audible hiss while recording

Post by jamiedean83 »

Hi all,

Got a PA300 and been experimenting with recording the audio using the jack socket at the rear with the Audio setting changed to line-out and i get a constant hiss, its not particularly loud but if you record multiple "tracks" it becomes quite noticeable. I use an M audio 2x2m with a very heavy duty and double insulated 3.5 to 6mm Y cable which is very short and doesn't pass by any power cables. I've just tried a passive DI box inline also which helped reduce the hiss am i missing something as i always thought good cables and good audio card would minimize the hiss or is it just the fact the PA300 Dac is terrible!

All pa300 have that hiss. You have to live with it. Try to record with volume more that 12 o'clock, maybe this helps a little.

Volume should be cranked full blast on the keyboard then turn down the input gain on your interface.

Pa300 has only headphone output, which can be use as audio, but don't except super quality.
Y- cable (insert) are not Balanced, which will collect ground loop noise.
Sorry to say that, but choosing cheapest keyboard you can't except high quality on all feature.
You got what you pay for.

Most keyboard outputs I have seen are not balanced either.

Unbalanced isn't a problem in most short runs.

The quality of the amplifier and converters and other parts of the signal chain would have more effect.

Never heard a 300, so don't know.

If it sounds good in the headphones you should be able to record with it.

You right.
But my point is Pa300 headphone output wasn't created for high quality clear Amplifier Audio Source, .... which mean is it what it is.
Also believe or not but sometimes is no problem with Audio output/cable, sometimes connected USB cable is source of Ground Loop.
