Direct Tab styles

Post by shadowhankron »

Hi

While getting use to the kork pa4x keyboard
I use the user tab .....plus the direct tab.
but when these are full...How do I save these styles to usb stick...and I know the direct tab is instantly saved to usb...how can I create another direct tab without affecting the first direct tab.
any help please. Thanks

Hi Ronnie

Just save a new SET - this will save all your favorite and user style banks.

That SET can later be used as a direct access set from USB/disk/SD etc...

Note that you can only "activate" one direct access set at any one time.

Hope this helps

Hi Pete
Good evening to you
Thanks for replying...my main problem learning on PA4X is saving anything..no matter how much I read manual it never sinks into this ageing brain.

SO HOW DO I SAVE. Sets.....either user or direct

Can user be saved separate and can direct be saved separate too.?

As my direct tab is filling up
I name the favourites on direct to genre of song... example. The Beatles...Rolling Stones..Glenn Miller ..60's...70's. Etc.....so not long before I need Direct tab 2
Hope you can help Pete

Thanks

Hi Ronnie

Firstly, you cannot have a Direct tab 2 - the PA4X only supports one Direct access link to a SET (disk/USB etc..)

So you have all the "FAVORITE & USER" banks in the PA4X plus FAVORITE & USER banks in your "Direct access" SET.
In your PA4X you have:-
624 factory style locations (13 BANKS) - these can be overwritten by switching OFF factory protection in GLOBAL mode.
480 FAVORITE style locations
144 USER style locations

Then if you use Direct Access to another SET you also have:-
480 FAVORITE style locations
144 USER style locations

In total you have 1,872 style locations "ready to play".

I am wondering if you have really run out of space for your styles.

OK, so if you need more then you will need to save SET to disk and load them when required.

Let's say you have filled up (or "happy with") many styles in the internal PA4X FAVORITES and USER banks
Now is the time to "save" all this to disk (if you want to save onto external USB, insert it NOW):-
Enter MEDIA mode
Make sure the "save" tab is selected (bottom of screen)
Press on "All" to highlight it
Press "Save To"
Select the disk to save to (drop down menu bottom left on screen)
Press "New Set"
In the popped up screen you can name the SET by pressing the "T" icon and enter the name of your choice
Press "OK"
In the next screen you can decide exactly what you want to save (i.e. you don't have to save everything)
In your case right now just leave all the boxes checked and press "OK"
"Are you sure?" - press Yes

That's it - everything saved in terms of all your USER styles sounds, keyboard sets, global settings etc...etc...
It's a good idea to do this regularly to backup any changes you make to anything on the keyboard.

At any time later you can "load" that set which will overwrite everything you saved
Alternatively, you can use that SET as a Direct Access set to get keyboard-sets and styles without them loading over the internal ones.

I'll stop there and see how you go.

There's a fair bit more to this as the PA4X has many more in depth options - but more later.

Let me know how you go my friend.

What I am referring to here is things like "selective saving" and "selective loading" plus how to activate Direct Access and switch that to another SET etc.. etc..
I placed a topic here: on Direct Access that may help: http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... p?t=103894

All this of course is in the manual but if you want a similar brief tutorial on something, let me know and I'll try my best.
Don't forget to check out Sam's great videos too (member "Sam CA").

Cheers

Hi Ronnie

If I understand your question correctly then "no".

BUT you can load individual STYLEs/SOUNDS/KEYBOARD-SETS from within a saved SET.

In MEDIA mode
Load tab
Locate the SET on your disk
Then press "OPEN" (NOT "LOAD"!!)
By continually using the "OPEN" on-screen button you can drill down to individual STYLEs/SOUNDS etc and then choose the location to load it into.
You can also load bank at a time this way too.

But to play a STYLE within a SET on disk without loading it you must select that whole SET as Direct Access

Hope this helps.

Pete :D

When you name the file you cannot have spaces. I don't know what the character limit is. Check out page 923 in the manual.
