mabcomp , I repeat once again , your main problem are the poor factory pianos ,
no equalizer/speakers can make a bad piano sound better ... sorry !
At this point , I'd like to remind to all of you that an arranger is a live band simulator so if you want your best arranger
Pa4X to sound like a real playing band then have in mind the magnitude of accoustic power of a playing drummer in watts !
- Only a power snare produces an acoustic peak power of 600 Watts !
Seting this value in the live band power "equation" where power of amplifiers of the rest of musicians will be calculated ,
the sonic resultant power is over 2x800 Watts RMS of PA system only to emulate the stage power of a live band ...
Therefore it's useless to use high-end & expensive stage monitors of low power when distortion will dissorder a very good
existing setup , for instance when you perform with a powerful rock Style in a fully loaded variation , do you ever expect
to listen to a piano sound details from a pair of 200 watts RMS stage monitors ?
The arranger is the most audio power demanding music instrument and can be compared only to a CD/DJ reproduction !
Just a noticeable observation ...

And Yamaha DSR's very popular with DJ's and I first came across these at a wedding as a guest and it was clear I was hearing something different and a quick chat with the DJ established why, they really are worth investigating if your budget allows they show them selfs to be diffrent round the usual crowd they keep company with when auditioning and a different perspective might be reached once this has happened

As you can see , I do not refer to loudspeaker brands , for me its essential for all members to understand first what power
or type of loudspeakers are needed and then proceed to their searching according to their budget !
According to my benchmark in my lab with advanced gear with a Pa4X custom funk style with power drums / progressive
Bass & Guitar (without limiters) , I've found that in the average playing power of 150 Watts RMS , over 1000 Watts of PA
power needed caused by peak power of snare & bass !
The only commercial middle category self powered loudspeakers that I use and can provide undistorted peak power of a
playing band , are the older electrovoice ZXA5 and yamaha DSR 15 follows but with limited real RMS power !
Such power loudspeakers can't be used as personal monitors and point at your ears 'cause then your ears will already
distort sound at a lever >110 dbm , not to mention the danger of damaging your ears , and note that ears damage level
will be permanent and cannot be healed.
Note that If we want to be precise in monitoring an arranger , then only lead sounds of keyboardist should be directly sent
to his monitor , a fact that will make very complex sound routine in a gig , else arranger player should get used to listen
to his solo in the band ensemble in the proper level balance , where its difficult to distinguish his solo sound details !

Well all I can say Antony .... we have probably hijacked this thread some what now (My apologies to the author of this thread) putting the science to one side for a moment and after many weeks having access to demo set of DSR mains & sub's (before I commit to a final purchase) working with one or two gigging groups of late......so with group (A) singer and rhythm guitarist using the pa4x in almost its full capacity (style play mode generally) with the drum kit sent out through the 2nd outputs and processed separately to argument the problem (i had great help there with that) which we are all aware of and the end results where very good, this includes the feed back from owners of the venue and audience (three gigs so far with this PA).....and group (B) a full working band who I depped for with the DSR's wedged each side and behind me as monitor duties (NO PA4X this time, montage.. sorry forum) and simply put every one happy inside the band working space and worked very well... the main PA on that occasion came from a out side company with sound engineer as many bands played at that weekend event ...... so Anthony we know using arrangers in there full capacity are fussy live but these are my observations out in the field and when it comes to sound reproduction in any space..... I am fussy until a satisfactory result is achieved for all concerned..the audience, paying customers and the gigging group... I'm guessing I will need to put my lab coat on now anticipating a response but I have run out of time here and band practice is calling so all the best to you all an interesting debate...over and out (!)
