Save all to USB stick
Can someone tell me how large a USB stick to purchase to do a save all?
tia, 4God
[edit] Do I need to format a new stick or will Kronos do that in the save all process?

As for samples, it depends if you are saving only the links to samples, or the multisamples themselves. The sample links will not absorbe much space (but you might want to backup your sample libraries seperately anyway!)
What adds up is also the Sequencer files (.SNG), especially if you have embedded lots of audio tracks

If I remember correctly, save all doesn't actually save all.
If music is the food of love, play on and play loud!
Gear: Kronos 73, Wavestation EX, Polysix, King Korg, Monotron and Monotron Duo, Minikorg, Moog Grandmother, my very old MiniKorg, 4 acoustic and 9 electric guitars, 1 Ibanez 5 string bass, a Steel guitar, a bunch of microphones, 2 pairs of studio monitors and other very cool toys, 1 wife and 4 cats and a lava lamp!

Hmm...as usual, Kronos does so many things.
Let me be more specific. I have only recently purchased a PC and have very little experience with it. In fact, I have never even updated my 10 month old Kronos, still running 3.0.4
I bought the PC to use for a DAW so that I can record a project I am working on with my Kronos.
Of course having the PC opens up a whole new world of downloads.
Recently ran across a set of custom combi’s here on this forum, which I want to download to my PC then upload to my Kronos. These combi’s load into UserBank B and the associated programs load into UserBanks DD and EE.
Before attempting this I want to backup my combis/programs just in case something goes wrong. I have only one .sng file, which means nothing to me as it is just a practice song.however, I use the Kronos weekly for worship at my church. Certainly don’t want to erase months of combi building.
Ignorance is bliss only until you know your’e ignorant, then it’s a very scary thing, lol
Appreciate the advice,
4God

If it is only combi's and programs, they are saved in the PCG, and will take only ~46 Mb
I usually make a backup on the Kronos itself also, and then copy those files to disk/USB. By that, you will also see the size of your backup

DISK/MEDIA Info tells you.4GodnWV wrote:Is there somewhere on my Kronos that will tell me how much data I would be storing?
Sometimes the ' free use ' ( or available space ) is not 100% accurate. Just a guess the counter is not real time. It might recalc only after a save or a reboot.
This is an example where Kronos is not like a Windows PC. Your SAVE ALL is only for your Data. It will not include the system data.
If you somehow have corrupted system data, I believe that resides on the DVD's. I also think a using the Factory Preload will also give you a fresh start on any user data.
It would seem that a 16 gig USB drive/stick will more than cover you. They are cheap these days, $10
Save all will be saving all that was loaded onto RAM and we already know that RAM is limited to 4GB.
Add to that what you have in Sequencer mode and i may be wrong if there are places where only references to virtual memory(SSD) are saved.
Either way, all of the onboard disk mode storage in kronos comes from the factory at 60GB on the latest models and the RAM is another 4GB
That adds up to 64GB and really the RAM does not load anything that is not already stored on Disk mode SSD. So back to just 60GB as a Maximum
There is no reason to not get a 64gb memory stick and be done with it and if you upgraded your kronos SSD to something above 60GB, the you can get a USB storage to match it. The bigger the storage capacity, the longer kronos takes to format it. 32GB took almost toooo long for me.
I got a 32GB USB stick to match one half of my Kronos SSD. I noticed Kronos showing me in disk Utility that i had 54GB available after the factory sets and added bonus sound packs. My free 8GB USB stick, given when i bought kronos, was enough to do a save all for factory state and the downloaded drivers plus OS update.
I got a 32GB USB stick to use as backup storage for wave files, PCG and save all. It is still more than enough for my pace of work.
If i ever run out of space on it, i will get a 64GB version because the way i use them is to store on them a copy of every thing i store in Kronos SSD.
Some wave files of popular songs i sample off of the internet for personal music collection listening pleasure(kronos is my home stero system and i sample albums or favorite songs to kronos wave files), i store those wave files on the external USB stick instead of kronos SSD. I don't use them from sequencer tracks where they would need to load from internal SSD only.
I just stream the wavefiles direct from USB when i want to listen. When i sample the songs from the internet, i get to run them through effects and whatever else kronos can add from sampling and audio page. Hearing popular songs from 1960's technology with kronos effects, is fun. Even doing modern songs the same.

4 GB is technically correct.19naia wrote:Save all will be saving all that was loaded onto RAM and we already know that RAM is limited to 4GB.
.
But we only have 3 GB ( round to 3.1) available, as the OS reserves/occupies 1 GB in RAM.
And , as most of us know, nothing we can do with RAM as 32 bit addressable uses the 4 GB ceiling. As I understand it, anyway.
