Mute lower sound not working

Post by nforce777 »

When i touch MUTE LOWER SOUND on touchscreen, and when i play the chord with left hand, the sound is not muted. Only when i lower the volume of the sound manually to 0 , the sound is not heard. This is true for every style. Is this a bug or am i missing something?

Hi,

are you sure that the sound you hear ist the one that´s set for lower ?

I would bet that you hear a sound from one of the 5 accompaniment tracks...

When you start the style, you won't hear the muted lower sound anymore.
It's only audible when the style is not playing.

If I remember correctly from the manual, this is programmed behaviour and not a fault/bug.

Play in style. ;)

I'm not sure if this is same on Pa4x, but on Pa600 if in Global/ Mode Preference/ Style Bass & Lower Backing is unchecked, then if Lower is mute is mute even if style not playing,....is not effecting behavior while play.

Yes it is... when bass and lower backing is checked.... it also writes “Backing” in the left voice on the home screen of the pa4x

Thank you all for your answers!

You are right. At default settings , when the style is played and the lower sound is muted , the lower backing sound is not heard.
Only when the style is not playing, the lower sound (even when muted) is heard.

Thank you again!

Hi nforce777, yes, Fransman and others are correct in that this is not an official bug but is unfortunately the way that kbd is designed. Page 57 in the manual is the place to read about it. On that page it says " Notice how the chord root is played by the Bass Sound, while the remaining chord notes are played by the Lower Sound (even if it is muted)".

I too have issues with the way this works though, as for me personally, there are several times when I want to mute the lower once the style is stopped (despite the fact that for 90% of the time I need the Bass and Lower Global function selected).

I actually think that in an ideal world that the Bass and Lower option in Global should be two separate check boxes/functions because there are lots of times when people may just want the bass sound and want to retain the ability to quickly mute the lower sound.

I tried to see if the 'mute lower' function works too when assigned to the 3 controller buttons but unfortunately, it looks like the mute lower function in the assignable switches is disabled too once the lower/bass function is selected in global.

FYI, you can use the assignable switches and/or the Ec5 footpedal to instantly disable the global lower/bass function but that doesn't help if you just want the lower sound muted.

Anyway, I think that Korg should either split the global option so that the Bass and the lower have seperate check boxes Or simply enable lower mute to work even if the Global setting is set to Bass/lower.

In the meantime, pulling down a slider is our only option from what I can see.

Best wishes,
Jon

Agree 100% and this not practical design exists since Pa1X or earlier model if I remember well.
It's not technically a Pa4X's problem but not a practical/convenient design or feature in some live situation performance.
