I was at the first Genos demo in the Netherlands yesterday
You can find my little impression here..
http://keyszone.boards.net/thread/486/l ... nos-zwolle
Conclusion, the Genos sounds quite a lot better then the tyros 5
It seems Yamaha was able to catch the essence of the different music styles
And all give them a different stage to shine..
The arranger part of the Genos convinced me..
Yet the advanced workstation part, is non excistant

By the way, the Genos has got to have at least the following for me be interested (This is based on my experience with my own Tyros):-I already like its sounds and drawbar organs
- Tempo lock
Bass inversion in the control surface
Intelligent chord fingering like PA4X "Fingered (1 note)" - Audya and Roland and Korg always has this
More control over SA and less "automation"
Touch screen
Intelligent "registrations" like SONGBOOK - no more "banks and numbers"
Performance set list feature
76-note option
NO built-in speakers
Balanced audio ports
Vastly improved OS for performance and recording.
Really good quality styles - typically they have been awesome in the intros and endings only
Here's hoping I might end up with 2 arrangers (you NEVER heard me say that)

This is the first requested feature in Pete's list and also I am personally interested to know.
Thanks
The Genos still made in China no matter how good it sounds!
Just my 2 cents! I will not consider purchasing it once found out it made in China!!!

i Like Yamaha's sound, even Tyros' compared to Korg pa4x,so i will pass this for now.....
One thing i like in Genos is the parametric knobs for filters....reminds me Triton Extreme somehow and the TFT screen that is so pleasant to work with, but not only that, i also like that you can watch the drawbars on screen as well, something that i havent seen on pa4x yet, dont know if can do that.
Another PRO is the build in Arpegiators,it also reminds me triton Extreme, and i bellieve Yamaha did a further step to arrangers, trying to aproach workstation synthesizers' behavior as well, well done for that.
Double fx's per style or more than pa4x,i think 11 per style.....
I must say i love that it weights 13Kg and it's 76keys. My pa4x weights more i think (almost 17kg)
Cons:
1)The price
2)the buttons and shape of instrument points to casio in my opinion
3) not so flexible as pa4x
What i would really like to see on pa4x that could make it stay on top for a long time are :
1)a ''Daw'' like editor,so you can really edit your styles proper without a pc
2) a better way to make keymaping/layers/switches,not like kontakt but at least as kurzweil 's philosophy
3)I wouldnt mind if it was able to play kontakt or gig files using disk streaming
4) Filter knobs in combination with optical view of realtime changes on screen
5)better Os with unlimited style pages according to everyone's needs
6)more FX's per style,at least two for each track channel plus general styles' fx
7) different color buttons so we can see them in the dark(ok there is red lights, but there is no point of having 120 red light buttons in the dark,if you dont know ''which'' button makes ''what'' when pressing)
Almost forgot that : Drum mapping/creation like Superior3 Vst,in case of future live disk streaming....

Hi,
Was in London yesterday and managed to get an hour to myself with the new Yamaha Genos in Chappell's Wardour Street.
Boy, what a fun hour I had with it. The first thing that left an impression on me was what a nice keybed the instrument has. A very light touch (won't suit all people) that's a pleasure to use. The sounds in the Genos are of the highest quality, probably edging the PA4X in certain areas (which you would expect considering the PA4X was released two years earlier). The choirs are to die for, and I pray somebody will produce a sample of the boys choir for PA4X one day (I have listened to Antony Sharman's vocal set and he does not have anything similar in it).
Basically I spent the hour actually playing the sounds rather than investigating the Genos as they really are that good. I did not spend too much time on the styles, but other people assure me that drums are improved in them.
I liked the general look of the Genos apart from the fact it's too big. If it was sitting above my Viscount Legend Live, it would look like a capital letter T from a distance!!
As stated previously, I don't delve too much into the PA4X (tweaking wise) so the lack of sound editing on the Genos wouldn't be an issue for me.
I think that Yamaha have again raised the bar with the Genos and I do really like it. I don't see the point in knocking something if it's good and the Genos is good.
Will I buy one ? Definitely not, as I think the price is outrageous. It's an all plastic construction, music technology moves forward (meaning what you paid £1,000 for three years ago should now be improved upon in all areas and should only cost you £800). More for less, I say !!
Unfortunately Yamaha are asking more than they did for their previous arranger, the Tyros 5.
Anyway, I'm so happy with my PA4X, that's going nowhere.

Even though I have not had a chance to try out the Genos in person I am not surprised at your positive impression of its sound.chelsea4023 wrote:The sounds in the Genos are of the highest quality, probably edging the PA4X in certain areas (which you would expect considering the PA4X was released two years earlier). Some of the patches I heard in the online demos are truly exquisite.
The Genos may be expensive and lack features of the PA4X, but when it comes to some of the onboard sounds I heard thusfar I am impressed.
No, there is just 3 organ types with flutes..korg1 wrote:i think it works on Genos for every organ sound, not only drawbars program sound like pa4x
The b3, a wersi, and a lowrey home organ.

Tempo Lock
BR asked 'Does it have the "Tempo Lock"? '
Yes it does.....a couple of clicks away but it's there.
Although Pete never thought it was on previous Tyros models, I previously had the Tyros 4 and am sure if you went deep enough, it was there too.
