OKGO Volca Sample keys 9 & 10 won't play simultaneously

Post by genepoz »

Purchased about summer 2017. Keys 1-8 will each play all the way through when any other key is pressed, including 9 or 10. But 9 and 10 cut each other off. Is this a known bug? Is there a fix?
Thanks

It's normal...9 and 10 choke each other

Thanks Mesoboy. Yeah, that appears to be the case. Someone mentioned that this "feature" is "great for closed and open hi-hat sounds." Guess we'll see.

This "feature" as you call it is clearly marked on the sequencer itself. Steps 9 & ten have the word alt in between them.

choking is a common feature of the mpc workflow. The sample is a spiritual throwback to the mpc, hence the color scheme on the original volca sample.

Ahh, yes in general, but not all. The most annoying thing about the Circuit is that you need to program the choke or your closed hat will not shut an open hat. Same with the Ry-30 but not as annoying. With that machine you assigned 'exclusives'. Instruments on exclusive 1 would choke each other etc. Same as the R-70. Hmm, gotta set the same sort of thing on my MV-8000. Thinking about it, any drum machine without set kits permanently assigned to particular positions on the notemap has to use exclusives due to the fact two kits may not have the same instrument layout on the note map. Not good for the kick to choke a snare, for example.
Stuff I'm using: Umm right now, well there's a Volca Drum, a Micro Freak, an ADX-1, a Pulse, a Blofeld, a UNO Drum, KeyStep/Beatstep Pro/Keystep Pro (one of each), a Circuit, a LiveTrak L-12 and this nonsense: The Brief-case as it was about a bit over a year ago (the the complete ridiculous GAS monster collection here)and here
