Hi
As a non-keyboard player (guitarist) I've been looking for an allround (sample-based) keyboard for practicing, song-sketches etc. The Korg Krome 61 seems to be a good fit for this purpose. I might buy one second hand, but is was wondering if there are different versions of this keyboard? Some of the reviews seems to be dated from ~2012 and some from 2017. I don't know if there is huge developments in keyboards over a few years, but if possible I'd prefer to buy the latest version.
If someone could enlighten me of the history of the Korg Krome I'd really appriciate this.
Regards
Espen

Nope, there's only one Krome.
OK, well, there are three in terms of size range, but there's only one Krome 61. And there's little in terms of updates for it - it was pretty well baked from the start. You see reviews from 2012 because that's when it came out, but KORG has kept it around since then without any changes.
The last keyboard workstation from KORG to get an update was the Kross, and that was pretty recent.

Afaik Korg released a special Edition in 2017 called Korg Krome Platinum. But the only difference between the normal Krome and the Platinum is the Colour... the Platinum is silver. Inside it's the same machine.
current gear:
Korg Krome 61 Platinum, Kurzweil PC3, Korg Radias, Korg M50, Casio XW-G1 and lots of VST-Stuff on Notebook.

The Krome has a more sophisticated sound engine and more sample memory. So it it sounds better and has deeper editing capability.ELO1973 wrote:Thanks a lot. I guess I’ll try to find one second hand.
Was also considering a Kross 2, since it’s a newer board. Even through the Krome is older I guess it still will be superior with more features and possibilities(?)

I find it more user friendly with its large touch screen too. Once you get familiar with it you can fly through the menus. I've even edited patches mid-song during rehearsal without the band noticing!
That said, the Kross is a very good 'board for the asking price. A lot of good features packed into a budget machine.
The major difference between Krome and Kross:
The Kross lets you record audio, and do vocoder work. It isn't a sophisticated audio station: it more or less allows you to render sequences direct to audio, and to overdub with more audio. The Krome has no external audio capability at all.
On the other hand, the Krome has more, better, more extensive effects options. The Kross only lets you put a real reverb in one of the Master Effect Sends, while the Krome lets you put one in insert, master or total effects. The Krome also has richer sound design features.
The Kross also has sample triggering and its step sequencer, but those aren't a really massive thing for most people.
Hope that helps?
