Loading a sample and recording a sample are are not the same thing, I can record a sample like in the video posted and drop it into 5 different sampler plug-Ins which will not give me the type of sound and saturation as a hardware unit.

Producers spend thousands of dollars in some cases buying hardware samplers in order to achieve a certain sound and saturation, jus saying but yeah great video

I’m a huge fan of ‘clean’’, but not a huge fan of thin, and it seems most of the time when I pull from records or other sources directly into my Apollo with great unison preamps I get an extremely clean yet thin sounding sample compared to a hardware unit, throw that in a sampler plug-in as is and you get thin and cheap sounding playback compared to the hardware units, not sure if it’s the saturation when sampling, but the audio artifacts when mangled don’t come close in the daw until you start having to dress them up and still it doesn’t sound as full or cohesive, just my experience and I totally get where your coming from

ill have to look more into AMS, the little bit I just read up about sounds promising, I know other plug-in do similar things maybe not as great though. But I do a good amount of mastering and usually reference my tracks over tons and all types of system, and the only way to get a proper master is making sure you have a proper mix, for me it all goes hand and hand, and do get things sounding cohesive but in a different way

As far as the sampling, for whatever reason when I would sample with my original motif from records or other sources the sound was just so lush and amazingly cohesive within itself playing the samples as instruments would allow for them to give off a certain texture and feeling that I cannot recreate in a DAW

Hello,

After reading this thread, I've seen and heard some demos of the ModX.
I'm sure you will be able to answer : what the ModX is able to do the Kronos can't ? (All I've heard didn't allow me to answer).

Thank you.

That is a question you can only answer yourself
from your own unique experience & perspective on life.
Well, let's be logical : if I've posted this question, it's because I don't get the answer. If I d'ont gest the answer, it's because I don't have the ModX.
If I had the Modx, I would be able to answer to my own question.
So, in conclusion, since I don't have the Modx, I can't answer from my own experience. That's the reason why I posted : asking for Kronos and ModX owners opinion.

Sorry you are not getting a straight answer. Possibly MODX is so new and owners are busy enjoying it with their K's

Maybe we can start a list. Its not only with the MODX can 'do ' vs Kronos.
Its capability.

Obviously, a new keyboard like MODX is going to have updated iPad
control.

MODX can accept timing from external WAV/audio and sync it. Thats a big deal.

The font size on MODX is larger than the tiny font on the K's sub menus. Thats
a big diff for me.

I vaguely recall its easier to program FM vs Mod-7. I think making these
boards 'easier' to Program is a huge benefit. I will never be a rocket scientist
on my K.

FM can be used with 100 operators using Super Knob. I think thats the source
of much 'instant gratification'. Yes, the K has Vector. My guess is the many
operators on MODX takes it way further. I am going by memory on this- feel free
to correct.

Hi Greg

Modx doesn’t not have a daw option like the montage just had updated, I found it extremely unfriendly setting up in Ableton over 16 indavudual midi tracks with it set as the sound card and everything routed properly(obviously not haha) on both ends, even the Yamaha specialist could not figure it out and just left it as it’s meant to be a performance keyboard, I know I was probably about an hour from figuring it out but just was not impressed by the sound of the modx as I once was with my motif, I also wanted an onboard sampler, i’ve Played around with the Kronos and feel that the Kronos also has much better sounds and a much better sound in general, not to say the modx or montage are slouches, just my feeling.

Is it fairly easy setting up kronos with a daw? I just basically would like to route individual tracks from Kronos to midi tracks in Ableton and still do everything else in my daw as normal, I know there’s a good amount of routing that needs to happen and I plan on using plug-in doctor to run he 32-bit Kronos software with Ableton

The daw functionallity is supposed to be added in a patch just like with montage... but even if they added, the 4 buttons, 4sliders and 4 knobs will fall hugely short...

Personally i am using the modx in combination with my ipad pro and the many ipad apps... which works extremely well, and is huge fun.. so many creative apps..

I appreciate hearing your recording experience with MODX. It appears to fall well short of what I am used to, having 16 midi tracks to build on.

I will see if I can retract my statement of it being DAW ready. iPad friendly yes, per Bacchus.

I am not expert on Kronos and DAW. What I recall, is that there is more setup involved. There should be you tubes on this, if you dig around.

I take it, you are getting ready to pull the trigger on a K2 ? You are in for a great ride, I think.
