why don't we decide for a day in which IAers can meet together in a chat?
(ok probably there will be problems for the diffent hours in the world but...)

I mainly use MSN Messenger... Infact I am pretty plugged in most hours of the day.
Also you may be interested that I have experimented a little with KDX that provides something like "Voice over IP" that works between Mac and PC and I beleive allows conference audio conversations.
Sounds like a nice idea!

Actually, if Sharp (or Daz) wanted to, they could VERY easily (and for free) integrate a java chat area right here on IA. Just hop over to SpinChat (http://www.spinchat.com/index), create the chatroom, copy the generated html code for inserting into a page, and voila - a round-the-clock chatroom for IA, right here on the site.
I've used SpinChat quite a bit over the years, and it works great.
Just an idea.

I use MSN and Yahoo and have them on all the time on my laptop. For voice I use a headset and boom mic through MSN and talk to someone in Florida almost every day. Most times the quality is very good and much better than the telephone but Yahoo VoIP is nowhere near as good but a good standby if MSN goes down.
There are conference facilities built into both but I've never used them and have no idea of quality and practicalities; also there is Netmeeting. This wouldn't involve any work on the part of IA. Maybe there could be a new section in the IA forum for meetings suggesting times and subjects like an agenda.
In my long experience with communications between Europe and the USA it works best to be on line early evening for Europe and mid afternoon for USA. The only time things change is one week in March when we go out of sync by an hour when the USA time change lags and doesn't match. This is for the UK but I'm not sure how that would work for other European countries. I assume we all change at the same times.
Kind regards
Phillip

I popped in for a moment. Yep, that's SpinChat.
Like I said, I've used SpinChat for years and never had a problem with it. And it's always available, with no maintenance or anything once it's set up.
Although I don't have much in the way of time right now, if anyone DOES feel like chatting it's always a good idea - if you find you're the only one in the room, like I just did - to hang around a while.
Although the impulse is to leave immediately when you see there's no one else there, everyone else will also pretty much do the same thing. Your odds of actually seeing someone else improve DRAMATICALLY if you wait a while.

Many thanks Riot and Daz for setting it up. Popped on for a bit last night and caught up with Johnnie A. We had a great chat across the Atlantic although it was a bit on the late side for him. I`d been wondering for a while if this could be done and here we are. Super!

Out of curiousity, what does the MSN app do that AIM doesn't? Can you access AIM users thru it? I use the iChat app in Mac OSX to Access AIM. Does that preclude me from reaching those of you that use MSN?

Okay, let me pose the question this way:
Since most of us have tons of friends that still use AOL, doesn't it make sense to use AIM, since we'd immediately know their screen names, since it's automatically the first part of their email address?
