Finally a set that sounds like a REAL RHODES

Post by Reuben »

Here is a free set of Rhodes EPs that I think finally sounds like you are playing the real thing. None of the settings on the Pa3x (I'm not sure about the Pa4x/1000/700) come close to sounding like the original Rhodes even though the samples are available in factory ROM. They just seem to have been accessed rather poorly in the final offerings.
The set has 16 different sounds including clean, fast and slow tremolo, tempo synced tremolo, bright etc.
This set does not use any RAM memory at all (Zero!) but accesses factory samples only. The sounds are very detailed with key on/off noises and that nice "bark" you get when playing hard.
Most of the sounds are the original Rhodes sounds but I've included some brighter bell sounds (it was fashionable in the 70s/80s to take the felt off the hammers to achieve this sound).
Tremolo Depth and Distortion are fully controllable while playing or storing in STS (Mixer/Tuning, FX Send, Master 2 & 3) and Tempo will adjust Tremolo Speed for presets with the word Tempo in the sound name if playing or automatically adjust to Style/Midi Tempo.
Demo here with some fiddling with some presets and ends with a midi file accessing this Rhodes set.

Edit: Link Updated February 2024
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1iWdNNG ... sp=sharing
It will put 32 sounds into the first 4 pages of User 3 Sounds.

The set is compatible for the Pa4x/3x/1000/700/900/600/3xLE.
I have fiddled with the Rhodes sounds in the past but this set is far better.
I hope you enjoy.

It might work in the Pa300 because it only uses factory sounds - no samples.

Version 1.2 out now (December 21, 2019)
The Bell Rhodes sounds have been improved with a more natural response to velocity changes.
Sound locations and desciptions have not changed.

Rhodes for Pa3x

Dear Reuben

It seems that the google drive link doesn't work anymore?

Would you be so kind to restore it?

I don't have that original set anymore but all the main Rhodes sounds (including some improvements to that first set) are now contained as a package in the piano set that can be downloaded from the first post here:
http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... p?t=113029

You don't need to load the pianos from the set if you don't want to. If you wish to download just the Rhodes sounds then Open the set and look for any sound names other than pianos and you will load these without using any user memory because they are remixes of factory Electric Pianos.

Hi . I’ve just seen your post about the Rhodes piano sounds, but the file link no longer exists. Where can I get it

Just folllow the instructions above. The Yamaha C5 set includes all the main Rhodes sounds as well (remixes of the factory sounds) but you don't have to load the sampled piano.
Cheers,
John
