Multitrack sequencer

I used the quick record to create a midi file. I wanted to go back in using multi track sequence recording mode, in order to add a strings part. However, Once I selected the track to be recorded, no sound would come from the keyboard. The sequence would play, and the event edit confirm that the notes have been recorded. However, they were not heard on recording or playback. Can anybody help? Thanks in advance.
