Is Kronos the King of Stuck Notes
What's the causes of stuck notes in Korg Kronos ?
- Kronos USB Bus,
- MIDI Engine
- KARMA
I have always experience a lot of stuck notes, mostly in COMBIS with KARMA ON.
But when an external controller is connected to USB it is far worse. In my experience from all the synths I owned, Kronos beats them all.
Note:
I have just updated my post regarding Arturia KeyLab 49 MkII plugged to Kronos USB port ( http://korgforums.com/forum/phpbb2/view ... 581#778581 )

Only time I ever had stuck notes, was when I accidentally had a MIDI CC from an external controller (passing through the Kronos via MIDI through to another synth) accidentally mapped to the sustain pedal. That was my bad.

Is Kronos Still the King ?

Another troubling COMBI of mine ( called Forever ) is based on Slow Pad String XL.
The changes are:
Only KARMA B module is active, and channel 11 is routed to external USB MIDI controller.
Today in a space of 40 min I had stuck notes twice.
The 1st -> https://streamable.com/qb5rj
The 2nd -> https://streamable.com/ns901
In 2nd case I have encounter even more interesting fact.
While Kronos was in the patch browsing mode, the COMPARE button would NOT work.
I had to close the browser to make “PANIC” button work.

I've had it happen once or twice when using Studiologic SL88 Studio as external midi controller for multis. A "panic button" would be a nice thing to have for such a situation. When I was using Mainstage for my giging rig, I used to set up a panic button mapped to a one of my controllers. Not sure if that's possible on Kronos.
I have experienced that stuck notes might only happen on particular midi channels.
In my case the kronos is set to chan. 1.
If I connect a Roland A-800 Pro to it (usb or midi) set to chan. 2, I get some stuck notes in combi and seq mode.
If I set the Roland to midi chan. 3, I get less stuck notes.
If I set it to chan. 1 or chan. 15, I never get a stuck note. Even within organ sweeps the connection is absolutely reliable.
Having programmed midi source code by myself, I would guess a timing bug within the software of the kronos, because with mainstage, two A-800 Pro midi beam I never had any faulty connection via usb.
So try out some other midi cannels and see if this helps.

Kronos 2 88, Roland AX-Synth, 2x Roland A-800 Pro, Behringer Vocoder VC340, Synton Vocoder, Neo Instruments Ventilator 2, Panda MIDI Beam, Joh.P.Andresen Harmonium, Studiologic SL990, Beyerdynamic DT770/880, FL Studio, Shure WH20, AKG WMS470, Shure SE535, Xenyx Control 1, U-Phoria UMC404HD, Visaton Monitor, Gig Performer, PreSonus Studio 26c, Macbook Pro
if my KeyLab is set to ch1, and Kronos was in PROG mode I have never experience stuck notes too. I have played quite often lead/organ patches. But there is no use to me to set KeyLab to the same channel in COMBI mode. My kronos is always set to ch1, and drums 10.
So I would say that stuck notes occur on particular channels only.
Thank you for pointing it out. It looks like I will have to stick to certain rules to bypass a bug.
As you mentioned it’s not just USB, stuck notes occurs via MIDI too ( I had 1 or 2 when Roland SH201 and Waldorf Quantum were connected )
And I am still experiencing stuck notes when working with my Logic Pro X. It’s not that often but it does happen occasionally, especially when recording KARMA to DAW.
It is worth to mention as well that I am using DIGITAL OUT from my Kronos, so there is always possibilities that it influences the frequency of stuck notes.
Anyway there is another BUG in Kronos when comes to COMPARE button.
If you in COMBI mode, and DIALOG BOX is open ( for choosing a patch ), the COMPARE button does not work to stop stuck notes ( as it happen in my 2nd clip).

It looks like stuck notes appear even if KeyLab is set to ch15 ( COMBI mode).
I am giving up. there is no point to waste my time for further investigations.
I can live with it, I don’t perform live, what pis*** me off is a loss of changes to COMBI after you press COMPARE button. It's a shame that Kronos does not have a properly implemented PANIC button.
