Adding groove/swing to midi in a style

Post by KorgPa4x »

Hi,

I own a Pa4X for a few months. The plan was to create my own styles by playing the keyboard of the Pa4X. Quantise helps a lot to correct stuff but once recorded the groove is gone.
The only way to create an overrated swing/groove is by using the triplet quantise but I want it more subtile.

Revering to the manual I can extract Midi groove from sampled drumbeats or any material that has swinged notes. Basicly these are the even notes in a 1/16 template pushed a bit forward.. or in some music styles (hip hop for example) pushed backward.

On page 508 there´s a subject that explains ho to extract MIDI Groove from a sample. I succeed to extract it from a drumbeat. Also was able to import it for a style. Made a copy of this style but original and copy (with added groove) sounds indentical

Anyone experienced with this before?

Actually I wish there was something much more simple.. I know the Yamaha PSR´s can add swing to styles easily..
I´ve been looking in the manual but can´t find any other page or chapter for adding swing / groove to recorded midi.

Thanks in advance :)

After some experimenting I found out what went wrong.. I wasn't playing the right variation of the style.
Anyway.. I think I totally misinterpreted "MIDI groove". This is only the groove that is triggering the slices and when selecting it the complete track is replaced by the sliced samples of the drumtrack and midi groove is only triggering these slices.. defenitely not what I'm looking for :-(

Anyone knows where to find such a setting to add swing / groove to recorded midi?

Swing/Groove in Styles

Choosing resolution/ quantization parameters during style-record is the one way of setting swing/groove.

To quantize after recording resolution of pop-up menue in Style/Pad Record > Style/Pad Edit > Quantize may be used to correct any timing mistake after recording, or to give the pattern a ‘groovy’ feeling.

But seems to be better to use sequenzer software to add Swing and/or Groove - for example it is well done with Cakewalks functions (Quantisize) ---> https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation? ... DI.39.html
kind regards
