I have been fighting an intermittent problem since I started using Reaper DAW software with my Korg Kronos in January.
Problem:
When monitoring the track input signal to Reaper, occasionally the meter and the volume of the sound peg the meter. The sound is totally clipped. You can hear when this happens that the beginning of the sound is normal but in less than a second, increases to full clipping. Sometimes when this is happening, there is a noticeable delay hearing the sound from the DAW regardless of the buffer settings. The audio outputs from my Kronos to my mixer are fine and haven't been a problem.
What I've tried:
Initially I thought that it was a buffer setting or cpu overload on the laptop or DAW. My fairly new Dell laptop is fast with lots of memory. Dell pro support helped me maximize my settings for audio recording use. I'm only hitting a max of about 4% on my CPU utilization and my computer memory etc. are not causing a problem. Changing the ASIO4ALL buffer settings sometimes makes a difference for a little while but then the problem returns.
I've updated my Korg USB/MIDI driver and reloaded my ASIO4ALL driver.
I've switched from a USB 2 port to a USB 3 port but it made no difference.
I had the problem again today, left everything untouched on my computer and DAW but rebooted my Kronos. Everything works for the moment.
I've thought I solved the problem numerous times but it keeps re-occuring. I can't help but think the problem lies in the Kronos built in MIDI USB interface. My net step will likely be to purchase a regular USB audio interface.
Has anyone else run into this before? Anything else I should try before giving up on the Kronos interface?

Although I use an iMac/cubase set up, your problem may be related to the “ audio monitoring” in Reaper.
In my case, recording the Kronos via usb in cubase works ok,but….the audio monitor selection would also behave in the way you describe and needs to be avoided.
(ie.. clipping and latency etc).
The audio input is instead, monitored via my mixer during recording and the pre-recorded audio tracks also go via the mixer.
An alternative could be to have a separate Audio Interface, but that may be become an unnecessary cost addition.
BTHW....The Kronos midi usb driver has nothing to do with the audio side of things.
(The usb cable link does,though).
Some mac owners have found better midi performance by uninstalling it !!
However,it is needed for using the Kronos Editor.
Hope this helps.
Best Wishes.

I always turn off the Reaper monitoring to avoid any feedback loops and to improve latency. I monitor the Kronos via a separate sound system like you do.
My problem appears to be a feed back loop in the input circuit but I can't find where it's coming from. I'll probably jst spend the money and buy a USB interface and hope that it fixes the problem.

One place that the Kronos can present an "audio loopback" is via its own usb input especially when set to L/R.
Check this and make sure it is actually off in the Audio Input menu.
If you're not using the audio line inputs, make sure the gain knobs are turned down and also not set for "guitar" or "mic" type input.
Setting the L/R here should'nt really matter as it is meant to work with external audio inputs, but if there's no signal present,it may have some influence on overall levels and become redundant etc.
Hope this helps.
