forScore
I am currently using Songbook+ for iPad, but would like to know some more about forScore:
1) Selecting a song entry from the Korg songbook
Does forScore allow easy selection of an entry from the Korg Songbook? Does it support using the Korg song number, or you use some other method?
2) Best features
What are the features you like most about forScore?
3) Annoying features
Is there anything about forScore that you find annoying?
Thanks in advance for any comments,
Phil

Dear Phil,
I have been using forScore since many years. I like the GUI from the beginning. It is so well and intuitively designed. I never read any peace of documentation. Also the integration and usage of the apple pencil and e.g. dropbox is amazing. But as I already said everything is a matter of taste.
I certainly use forScore in a slightly different way than others. forScore is my master of all playlists. That means I manage all playlists in the app. I do not use the setlist function of the Pa4x. Every PDF in the app is linked to a songbook entry. During a live performance - before C19 I played many gigs in retirement homes - forScore is the leading app to manage the sequence of the songs I play. I and can prepare this perfectly without having my Pa4x next to me.
Maybe this helps. Stay save and regards from Cologne, Ralf

Thanks for the comments Ralf.
The thing I can’t work out is how to set the Control Channel in forScore (eg to ch16) to communicate with the Pa4X ?

Hi Phil,
Very good question. If I remember right I did only some config stuff on my Pa4x:
- Global/Midi/General Controls/Midi Preset: 08 Tablet
- Global/Midi/Mini In Channel/CH16: Control
- Global/Midi/Mini Out Channel/CH16: Control
To connect your iPad to the Yamaha BT Interface you need a BT application eg. GarageBand. I use the KORG App BLE-Midi. I did no special Midi Config in forScore.
I think this must be the same for Songbook+.
Hope this helps. Regards, Ralf

Rosco,
My Pa4X is currently in storage, so I am just playing around with forScore by itself at the moment. I use Songbook+ action buttons a lot, the forScore approach is interesting but not as good in this area (eg you can combine page turns, and midi commands in a Songbook+ action button, but in forScore it seems you need separate buttons for each of these).
But forScore has other strong points, such as flexible metatags .
But I am just a beginner on forScore!

Hi patpsc,
To answer your question, I use forScore via a yamaha bluetooth interface and it works fantastic.
Just one more comment, the main benefit of using for example the ipad in connection with a scoring app like forScore is to be paperless, well organized and play something new in seconds.
On top of that, it is a nice and comfortable way to organize your set lists with a finger tip on a nice display. Forget files and folders these scoring apps are using dynamic library organization to ensure that your menu listings and set lists are always up-to-date.
But as always it is a matter of taste.
Happy X-Mas

Patrick,
Yes.
forScore was designed around the PDF file format. That makes finding new music, digitizing your existing collection, and sharing files with colleagues a breeze. If you plan a gig you can arrange a set list - like in your Pa4x.
You also require a songbook in your Pa4x. Let's assume for every song you want to play you have one score/pdf and one songbook entry including all your registrations, styles etc. Every songbook has one ID with will be linked to the scores/pdf on your ipad.
In my case, forScore is my master of all playlists. That means I manage all playlists in the app. I do not use the setlist function of the Pa4x. Every PDF in the app is linked to a songbook entry via the above mentioned ID. During a live performance forScore is the leading app to manage the sequence of the songs I play. Scrolling live to the next song means an automatic change to the corresponding songbook entry. This is very fast, next new song/score/pdf means new registration of your Pa4x.
