Kronos update?

Post by Bachus »

Any chance we would see some of the Nautilus interface updates on the kronos,.. i think an interface update could add half a decade to the longlevity of the Kronos..

Maybe not Just the interface... add the two arps on top of Karma.. and the new sounds... and to top it off, full integration with Korg gadget.. and an option to use the gadget piano roll as an editor for the kronos sequencer.

And a new model (76 semi weighted with aftertouch) to celebrate the update..

How much would you pay for an update like this?
Korg Kronos 2/88 , Genos, Mainstage3 +VSTsu, ipad pro, GSi Gemini, Roland Integra 7, Jupiter Xm, Yamaha motif XS rack, Ketron SD90.

There's always a chance, but I'm not holding my breath. One problem is the display aspect ratio -- the Nautilus screen is wider than the one on the Kronos.

I'd love to see the arps feature on the Kronos. And the dark mode. As long as they don't remove parts from the Kronos, and just *add* features, I'm willing to pay as much as a sound expansion. Max $250.

But for me, it's easier to expand functionality for the Kronos using an ipad or other hardware I already have.

No, i isn't. Kronos : 8", Nautilus : 7". Both are 800x600 pixels.

Yeah, Nautilus has a smaller screen; one inch less height. If they ever did port it to Kronos, they could letterbox it, like they did for widescreen movies on old TVs.

Its not about the screensize... its about the interface....

The Nautilus works much more comfortable then the Kronos

Hmmm ... how is the Nautilus' interface "more comfortable" than the Kronos interface?

It is essentially the same interface, just with a slightly more modern look. But on a slightly smaller screen, with far fewer hands-on controls.
Current: Kronos 61 Titanium, Yamaha Montage 6, Roland Fantom, Dexibell Vivo S7 Pro, MPC Live II; Previous: Kronos 73 SE and 2 88, Yamaha Motif 6, XF, EX5, SY77, DX7 (x2), CP33, Roland JP-50, Alesis QS8

Which is why my workflow prefers the Kronos. I like having a Data Slider, and physical controls. If we're talking about just the screen, the Nautilus looks more clean, because you are restricted to seeing 8 parts at a time, which some people prefer. I don't want all those extra pages of navigation and button pushes, but for people that don't program or deep dive, it's fine.

I don't use a mixer. My Kronos is my mixer. All my synths and audio run right into my Kronos, so I really like the way its interface is laid out. I'm constantly using knobs/sliders, and I like seeing all 16 parts on a single display screen.

As far as an update, I would welcome one. Extra arps would be cool!

I do want the Nautilus to succeed, because it continues the OASYS/Kronos legacy. While I welcome more functionality and improved GUIs, I don't like it when manufacturers reinvent the wheel with each new iteration, and obsolete your past workflow.

I really appreciate Korg for being fairly consistent. I can trace my workflow back to a 20 year old Triton. On the other hand, try comparing a Montage to what you did on a Motif, to what you did on an EX5, W5, SY85, SY99. It's apples and oranges.

I’m with you Mike - thanks but no on the Nautilus interface metaphor.

Absolutely agree Mike,

What we win on one hand, we loose on the other one. That is the Nautilus.
In fact, we loose more than what we win !

No,

The Kronos is done and the Kronos 3 is the next full workstation coming after the Naultilus.

And the reason they won't update the current Kronos interface is because they don't actually want the Kronos to last another half a decade in the stores. They would lose money getting people to shell out another $3000 for that half of decade.

A Kronos 3 will never exist with the actual screen interface of our Kronos (which is just like the far away, old and beloved Apple Lisa ! :D )
This kind of interfaces could not anymore last for years !

agreed. whatever korg does for an expensive +$3000 keyboard way in the future will not resemble Kronos or Kronos 2. Or Nautilus.

Especially the internals- the Kronos internals and OS are limiting and aging factors.

If Korg plays in the expensive keyboard space, way in the future, lets say late 2022 or 2023, they will or should create something much different.

I would like to see Korg try to show off their engineering and development talent vs a copy and paste of an old expensive keyboard with 1 or 2 enhancements.
