HOW TO SYNC SEQUENCER FROM ANOTHER DEVICE

Post by ronniecruisin »

Hi. All. Am trying to sync a Roland VS 2400 Recorder to start the M3 sequencer but am having no luck. Just want to trigger the M3M when play is pushed on the VS. Cant see a simple Sync external parameter on the M3 to do this. Anyone know how please??? :?

The M3 sends a SysEx start message (FA), which could be used to start the VS-2400.

Hi. Thanks for that. So It cant be done using the VS2400 as master??? All I'm trying to do is simply trigger the M3 sequencer. From past experience with many other machines it was very easy to do. Not the case with the M3??? Would prefer the VS to be the master.

Not saying it can't be done. I'm just not familiar with the VS-2400.

Presumably the "two 'synchronised' fingers" approach not suitable.

Looking at the M3 MIDI Implementation chart for the M3, in order to receive the SysEx FA message to Start and FC message to Stop the Sequencer, the MIDI clock in Global mode needs to be set to External MIDI, and "Receive Ext. Realtime Commands" in Global mode needs to be checked.

Looking at the VS-2400's AP-Appendices document, MIDI Implementation section, the VS-2400 will transmit the FA and FC SysEx messages when UTILITY-SYNC screens SYNC MODE is “INT” and SYNC Gen. is “MIDIclk” or “SyncTr.”

Hopefully that helps.
