Does the OpSix have microtuning capability?

Post by Savante »

Most Korg synths do support microtuning, and for me it's an important feature. I would love to buy an OpSix, but I'm thinking it may not have microtuning, which would be a deal killer for me.

Microtuning could still be added in an OS update, I believe. The original Minilogue did not have microtuning, but it was added in a later update of the original (pre-XD) Minilogue. So there is a precedent for adding this feature in an OS update. (The later Minilogue XD also has an excellent microtuning implementation.)

I don't see any evidence that the OpSix has microtuning, either in v 1.x, or in the more recent v. 2. I hope Korg will add this feature.

alternate tunings

Post by TimeOverTone »

Current rev2 does not support alternate tunings. I also wish you could load tuning files.
It also does not have Keyboard tracking adjustment for Pitch which the Yamaha FMX engine supports for both ratio and fixed pitch modes. This would be useful in making components to a sound that varies with the key number but not harmonically related to the fundamental. While we are wishing, I wished that the FM operator could specify a Phase offset for the Oscillator. I was hoping that you could use the Effect Phaser operator to do that but because the dry signal is always mixed into the output you can't use it to just phase shift the waveform.

Not good news, but thank you for the clear response.

OPsix supports a kind of micro tuning.

If you use the Vpatch capability to assign the keyboard note as a source and the OPx pitch as a destination then adjust the intensity to +60 then it will track the keyboard if the OPx pitch is set to fixed -60 will reverse the keyboard direction relative to the fixed frequency set up in the OPx oscillator. If the OPx is set to ratio then Intensity will shift relationships centered around C4 and only C4 will remain unchanged. You can fine tune the amount by putting it under the control of the mod wheel so in effect a second pitch wheel just for that OP which does not return to center. If you set the OP oscillator to fixed and the intensity of the pitch shift to +72 and under control of the mod wheel, then you can shrink the octave to make it slightly flat so major or minor thirds are more in tune. This is a hack and not very precise as being able to load Scala and KBD files.
