Transpose for Midi's

Post by DrKewel »

This may be stupid but here goes my question.

I am playing to a midi song on the PA5X, but the song is written in Bb.

I want to play the song in G because the chords are easier for me to play, so I transpose the midi down 4 steps. But to match the lower pitch, I must still play the Bb chords. I'm thinking I need to edit the midi file itself??

Yeah, used KartoEditor worked fine. $30.00 (Windows)

You could add this to the "suggestions" topic above - this has never been possible in all previous models....

I don't have Pa5X but in my Pa4X I would go to Global > Tuning > Transposition and I can check mark the Player or midi if I need any transposition.
Look into your Pa5X if there is such an option in Menu > Global > Tuning.
By the way from Bb to G you need to transpose down 3 steps not 4 steps.

Hope that helps.

Hi BR

Aha!!!
I've never been able to achieve transposing the MIDI/MP3 and NOT the keyboard.
I tried again this morning but just cannot do it. You can do it the other way around (keyboard but not MIDI)

Would love some detailed steps because I've clearly missed something here.

Thanks my friend

Not really a bug - just annoying that you cannot do it.

In general settings song transpose on
Keyboard transpose off
Then -3
Song is now from Bb to key G

With Songs in a difficult key, you may want to transpose them to an easier key. You can choose to only apply transposition to the Songs, without transposing the keyboard.
▪ Activate transposition only for the Songs
1 Go to the Settings > Menu > Tuning > Transpose Control page.
2 Activate Transpose on the Song, and deactivate it on the Keyboard.
▪ Transpose the Songs
> Use the TRANSPOSE buttons on the control panel.

..... deactivate it on the Keyboard. ......
Thanks but there is no such option on the PA4x
The choices are "PLAYER" and "MIDI IN NOTES" so I still do not know how to change the key of a MIDI/MP3 and not change the keyboard...

I see in the PA5x manual that Korg have added flexibility with regards to transposition - this is great!!! All I need is a PA5x
It is all on page 442 in the PA5x User Manual :D

Download a midi program called Powertraks from PG music. It's a simple midi program that lets you change to key to anything plus a whole lot more.

Pete, you're absolutely correct.

I personally use it the other way:
1- For example for practicing a song, I load a mp3 song, listen and find the key.
2- If it's difficult for me to play on the original key then simply I transpose down/up by using the b,# button on the front panel.

In Global > Tuning, both "PLAYER" and "MIDI IN NOTES" are not check marked.
