Post by G »

OK…

On Korg’s promo video for the Pa5X he says that it has:

Sample Memory:

RAM User & Local -

User: 8 GB (compressed)

Local: 4 GB (compressed) – meant for a localization version that is sold by distributors.

4/2 GB Linear

And

1 TB SD Card capacity

Then on Korg’s website it states:

Storage: Internal Drive: 1 GB

Sampling: User PCM Sample memory: 4 GB of data, equivalent to 8 GB linear when compressed

OK, so I get the 8 GB (compressed; 4 GB (uncompressed) – amount for samples storage…

What is the “Storage: Internal Drive: 1 GB”

And the “Local: 4 GB (compressed) – meant for a localization version that is sold by distributors.”

Hmm, 71 views and no one seems to know... :(

I guess I am not the only one.

I didn't see any question.

The only valid question is about "Storage: Internal Drive: 1 GB" , all others are crystal clear as stated !

Actually there is no internal physical Drive , like Pa4X HD.
It's the same auxiliary motherboard eROM space of 1 GB , exactly as in Pa4X KORG DISK where some system files will be written
as XML loading missing samples or Pa conversion results documents and user can save partial KST elements like Styles/Songbook/
KEYBOARDSET but not large PCM contents 'cause its a little storage space of less than 1GB.

Bear all in mind that this little space and 1TB of 2 mSD cards are only for storage purpose , they do not participate in OS or
samples contents , not even for streaming from disk , since Disk for samples is the on board Ram.
Speed of those storage media will determine only the read/writing time of storage files and do not affect system speed.

Hope this helps

OK, so the 1 GB isn't really "storage" - meaning a place where we can store sounds/samples...?

And what about the “Local: 4 GB (compressed) – meant for a localization version that is sold by distributors.”

Does that mean that local distributors can add some sounds, styles, etc. to the boards they sell...? Like Indian sounds for India, etc...?

And for the rest of us - there is no way we can access this extra 4 GB of storage to use...?

So when something is stored on the 1 TB SD Card - in order to play that sample, etc. - do we have to go to the 1 TB storage tab in the menu - or can it just be populated with the rest of our sounds on the display - if that makes sense.

Does anyone know the amount of RAM the system has to load samples into before they are played...?

Anyone know the total amount of samples, styles, etc. that come with the Pa5X - I believe the Genos has over 40 GB...?

Thanks!

- Localized Ram is the non accessed area of Ram where PaSeries distributions like Musicant/Oriental version using for extra
sampling resources and only Korg has access and provides raw format of samples bin files at official representatives under
special permission and source code tools , of course completely out of question for anyone else to access this area.

- Samples that are participating in sampler engine are not saved or streamed in 100-1000 times lower speed of mSD or USB
media storage , only MP3/wav files that are treated as songs and external files.
Preloading / streaming method of samples is exactly as in Pa4X.

- On board Ram is used for OS , ROM resources and for saving & streaming samples (preload function) and the only I can share
with you is that is 4 times larger than Pa4X rompler resources and close size to equivalent resources of Genos 2.

So do not speculate for things that you're aren't aware of and just play your Music and have fun ...
