Korg 01W Buttons

Post by qazuio »

Hi everyone, new to the forum

I'm working on resurrecting an 01W.

I've got it booting up after various issues;

Power supply seems ok, (can update voltages if req'd)
Changed a few 100uF caps on the +12-12V area on the mainboard.
Some damage on underside of board due to battery leaking.
Tidied up damage, electrically seems ok now, new battery fitted.

Many of the buttons don't function and most of the leds are not lighting,

The 8 buttons left of the data slider are ok, although no leds are,
data slider ok
4 buttons on the rhs of data slider not working
All buttons under the lcd working except "H"
"PAGE +" "PAGE -" not working
The rhs number button area most work except,
"0", "COMPARE", & "RESET".
Just wondering if this is a familar fault known to anyone, perhaps a logic chip on the mb or poor contact on a certain address line etc?

Also the sequencer crashes the system when used.
Floppy not working either.

Pretty poor state, however I WAS able to load in the factory presets and all the keyboard is responding and the audio is clear, so perhaps there is hope:-)

For the Floppy Drive, I'd suggest replacing it with a USB Floppy Drive emulator. They're easy to install and work pretty well.

The button contacts probably have to be cleaned, but to get to them you have to take the ENTIRE 01/W apart - it's pretty intense. While you have it apart, why not replace the screen with a LED display? you can buy on eBay. I will say, the sequencer crashing the whole system is worrying - you may not be able to fix that. is the firmware version up to date?
