Kurzweil does it right

Post by ITguy54 »

Kurzweil showed two new keyboards at NAMM 2024: the K2061 and K2088. They appear to be budget friendly relatives of the 2700. Kurzweil is smart enough to keep the 9 sliders/drawbars. If it has all the engines of the 2700 (V.A.S.T., 6 operator FM, VA, B3 emulation, etc). If it comes in at the right price point, then who cares if Korg ever adds drawbars to the Nautilus or comes up with a replacement for the Kronos?

If I'm honest, the drawbar engine in Korg's seems to have stopped development in the early 2000's. Their take on Vib/Chorus always sounded like a bad phase shifter on high speed vs. an honest effort at realism.

The baby kurzweils don't seem to be cut-down in much except for size, drumpads, and audio interface function. If you're running it standalone and don't use pads, it should be a pretty complete experience from what the news tells me.

The PC4 comes in at $2,5K, and has many similar features to the K2700, so I wouldn't expect anything too crazy, price-wise. At a wild, uninformed guess, the K2061 might slide in at sub-$2K, which wouldn't be too crazy.

How come? Personally, I never cared for the sounds or small displays, but it seems like good gear.

Gotcha. I have heard some "interesting" things.

I maybe thought you had a bad experience with the gear, so thanks for clarifying.

False, when Young Chang went under and was bought by Hyundai, he worked again for the newly acquired "Kurzweil Music Systems" after being appointed Chief Strategy Officer in early 2007.
