"Quick" Recording using MIDI / DAW
Hello all,
I know there are multiple threads regarding quick recording, midi, DAW, but in none of them could I find the exact topic / solution so my apologies in advance if there is something out there that I've missed.
As Pa5x doesn't have quick recording, I'm trying to connect to Logic and record multi-track live via Midi.
Steps I did:
1) Go into Midi on Pa5x, set all channels 1 to 16 for both outgoing and incoming (ex. Ch1-Upper 1, Ch9-Bass, Ch10-Drums, Ch16-Acc6, etc)
2) In Logic, created 16 external software channels and each one assigned to Pa5x and a certain Midi channel.
3) I press record on Logic and start playing style and accomp. and uppers...
4) Press stop on Logic...I can see that each track has midi data recorded.. so everything DID record.
My issues:
1) If i press PLAY in Logic, there's nothing transmitting to Pa5x... nothing is heard. Am I missing a setting in Logic to transmit midi out back into Pa5x?
2) If I save it as a Midi file and load it in Pa5x, then I can hear that everything is recorded properly (in terms of playing, fills, etc.) but the sound assignments are wrong for MOST (but not all) tracks. For example, seems like some ACCs are correct but the drums and percussion are assigned to entirely different drumkit.
As I (sometimes) use multiple drumkit and ACC sounds in each style (Var 1 a user drumkit, some synth pads... var 2 different kit and maybe guitars for ACC... fills different kit... etc), I can't just load the midi and manually change each track sound to the one I want as there could be multiple.
Can someone help me with this either here or in a phone call or something? I just want to be able to record something quick and dirty and then clean it up and add other things. Would be also great if I can sync the tempo!!
I very much appreciate all your support in advance!

Hi Mike, I have not tried this process yet on my PA5X but have on other keyboards. Have you loaded the correct .ins into Logic for the PA5X?MikeMusik wrote:Hello all,

After multiple attempts (and now even downloaded cubase to test out a different DAW), I can record all midi data in terms of notes played in each track (1-16), however, when I save it as a .mid file and load it in the keyboard, the tracks are set to acoustic piano. When there are program changed within a song (ex. A fill in which changes a drum kit), it’ll change to a different sound and then come back to acoustic piano.
Im really hoping that someone with a knowledge of MIDI can support here. I’ve done hours of research but seem to be out of luck. .

In Pa5x Settings - Menu- SHOW Program Change
Now you will see similar to 121.015.073 near every patch of PA5x.
Note the value from every track of PA5x and insert them in Cubase with formula below.
MSB*128+LSB = Bank (this must be entered in Bank selector of cubase)
Program Change +1 (this must be entered in Program selector of cubase)
In the above example
Bank=15503 (121*128+15)
Program=74 (73+1)
This will bring Concert Flute DN1 on the track.
After you update cubase with these information for all 16ch, save and export the midi.
Now this will call up all the channel patches in pa5x when the song is selected.

Is your channel strip external enabled?
