Pa3x and Roland Integra7

Post by robinsel »

I have been given an Integra 7 sound module. I have NO idea how to set this up to play through my keyboard or be controlled by my keyboard for live performances. The Integra manual and videos are concentrated on using a computer in a studio environment.
How do I save sounds in my pa3x. Can multiple sounds/splits created as a studio set be transmitted on a single midi channel.? Only 3 upper voices can be played on the pa3x normally but is this the same with the Integra? ANY help would be appreciated. I live in Australia and I can’t find anyone who can provide product tuition. I know there are a few people on this forum who have one so begging for help or suggestions where I can get help. Many thanks

I used to own the great Integra7.
It is an amazing sound module - I loved all the incredible behaviour modelling of Roland's SuperNatural sounds.

I linked mine to my PA4x.
The Integra allows you to set up 16 sounds (16 tracks) so you can set up the sounds you want for PA3x's UPPER1,2,3 and LOWER and then match the MIDI channel on both instruments.
You cannot load/save any sounds from the Integra onto the PA3x - you could attempt to sample but that's a whole new way of life (does work though!!)

You would simply be using the Integra as a sound source for the PA3x using the MIDI setup mentioned above.

In PA3x GLOBAL MODE>>MIDI>>MIDI OUT you will see the default MIDI channels assigned to the style parts
e.g.
UPPER 1 - MIDI channel 1
UPPER 2 - MIDI channel 2
UPPER 3 - MIDI channel 3
LOWER - MIDI channel 4
(these can be changed of course)
So if your Integra has a trumpet assigned to a track whose MIDI is "2", then the UPPER 2 on the PA3x will play it in the above example.
Can multiple sounds/splits created as a studio set be transmitted on a single midi channel
I believe the short answer to that is NO - I can't imagine how MIDI receiver (e.g. I7) would handle that - so all the MIDI from the PA3x would be channeled to the I7 on one channel - hence only one I7 sound would play.

Hope I've understood your questions and hope this helps a bit...

Thank you. That sort of makes sense. But am I right in thinking therefore that I can only get 4 voices into my Pa3x at once? As an example, if I want to layer sounds like cello/ strings on the lower - I can’t? Also I’d have to select from the Integra, not from the keyboard? I was hoping to create studio sets on the Integra, to be played through a midi keyboard and changed through the keyboard. Would I be better getting an 88 key midi controller like the Studiologic Numa compact ll ?
