Kronos 3 lives!

Post by Koekepan »

I must admit that I'm surprised - and yet not.

They have an actual Kronos back on the market, although what appears to be different about it is largely faster hardware and a bit more on-board storage. I've seen nothing about operational changes like a pianoroll, so what I'm guessing is that KORG needed time to make sure that the software worked well on the new hardware, and therefore threw out the Nautilus as a stopgap.

On the other hand, there seem to be no real update. It's the same as before, just on faster hardware.

In a world where Kurzweil stepped forward with the K2700, I would have wanted to see more than faster boot time from KORG. I hope that they have a serious software update up their sleeves.

They DID announce that they've worked on drastically improving boot time. Let's see what happens with that. I've already put in my order today.

HI,

Ive pre ordered a Kronos 3 as well.

What we know so far....

They have changed the touch screen, probably using an updated type which they say makes it more responsive.
They have also added 256 new programs.
Sped up the boot time by 60% - using a new mother board and processor. Possible software changes to enable this? Im expecting boot time under 60 seconds.
I heard there is no fan in the unit. Only uses 40 watts of power.
Increased the SSD size to 120 GB (62GB reserved for user expansions). I think the hard dive was 40GB on the Oasys and 60GB on previous Kronos.

Namm starts today so we will no doubt find out some more!

Cheers

I sure hope it's better than the Nautilus's. That touch screen is AWFUL. I touch one spot, it clicks something 5cm away. This happens frequently. I've recalibrated a few times, it doesn't improve anything. it's just a low resolution touch panel. Also, there's a small amount of lag in EVERY MODE of the Nautilus. Even just switching between Set List and Sequencer mode takes about a second to switch over. Meanwhile the Kronos 2's touch panel is spot on every time, and the only time I notice screen lag is switching songs in Sequencer mode.

They say that the new touchscreen is the best ever.

Really, who knows?

I would definitely like to hear updates from people as they get a chance to get hands-on with it.
