Just a quick update on experience so far... I think Pete has explained earlier just a few, yet key differences that do really make the Korg more suitable to me. So I won't repeat them except to say that initially, I sort of missed the Tyros registrations but that was mostly because I had gotten used to them. I had set up each bank as a song and then used from 1 to 8 registrations for my variations. But as I found my way setting up the songbook in the Pa3X, I reailsed the power of this feature and as Pete mentions, no longer do I need to remember what each of the variations are. The STS portion of the main screen tells me.

Things I like better on the Korg:

1. The Keyboard. Not only the 76 key layout but the keybed itself is nicer to the touch. I can get much more expression from the voices and they seem to precisely reflect my mood. When I resume playing the T4, I am immediately struck by the almost button like feel of the keys. Like pressing an on/off switch than a piano key. Of course the Korg is not piano key like either, thank goodness because its not a piano. It's more like a touch responsive organ keyboard which is how I like it.

2. Styles. Vastly more like the live music I listen to and play. The T4's are good, the Korg's better. I especially like the unplugged, ballads, jazz and contemporary styles. The T4 does have nice blues and gospel styles though. Some of the endings are still to fussy for me though. As Pete mentions, having separate Fill buttons is a bonus that adds live like variations not available on T4.

3. Button layout and controls. The right buttons are in the right places and proximity is prioritised to frequency of usage or appropriateness to its usage. This is especially noticed in the voice buttons, the style buttons and the STS buttons.

4. OS. Of course the touch screen makes a huge difference to the intuitive relationship between keyboardist and OS. I especially like the ability to basically taylor the start up setup for me. But the real benefit is the configurability of the Korg. I am a big fan of customisation and the Korg allows me to have it my way with few exceptions or compromises.

5. Empathy. Now your probably thinking this guys nuts. How can you have empathy with a keyboard. Well that answer is you can't. BUT, I think the the designers of the Korg had a higher level of empathy with the people that will like the Pa3X. Empathy can be defined a few ways. The one I like is "the ability to project yourself into the mind of the other person and acurately predict how they will react or respond". So I feel the Korg designers got their empathy for me just right. I just sat down and played this board. Most of the stuff I've tried I have intuitively worked out without too much reference to the manuals. Obviously once I really get into the deeper features I may find this less obvious but for now, I am so likening the natural feel and playability just right for me.

I have to go out now so I have to break my feedback for now. But in closing, I know some folks started with the Pa3X or an earlier Korg and then migrated to the Tyros and they have their reasons and justifications for that. I know the T4 is very easy to play and sound good immediately. But for me it was lacking something. And so far the Korg is filling those gaps.

Haven't rushed to sell the T4 yet, but given the few times I've played it this past 3-4 weeks, it isn't looking like a keeper right now.
Cheers,
John

Well another week on and I've decided to sell the a Tyros. Details in the classifieds...

Pete, common sense has won over emotions. Can't justify the investment of two arrangers.

Yamaha could make all this, but still I dont understand why they have not done it. i mean the editings options like KORG have on their PA series.. user friendly!!!

I would have been sold on that long time ago. and say good bye to KORG. im less of how KORG sounds, i never liked their demos or anything on youtube and what I hear from my machine. even from the first time i began playing with my first KORG pa80 i got night mares, but I choosed it because of the Flash drive., i wanted a psr9000 back then, but i didnt know so mutch "back in the days" and choosed Korg cause it was easyer to work with.

but today im happy with my pa2x/pa3x. (im making my own styles and using my personal favorite drumkits and sound samples and so on) so its like i want it. I dont use mutch standard stuff from KORG.

I think Yamaha sounds better then KORG, and then we also have Roland that have nice drumkits and of course audya.

Even the soundboard /card in yamaha i think is the big difference too. makes it more detalj clear.

P.s
This is my view, from a guy that plays Turkish and other middle eastern music.
